Bookish Question of the Week

QuoftheweekIt’s time for some fun!

The reading devotees among us often talk longingly about literary heroes, female characters we’d like to befriend, and families we’d love to be related to. We so often forget the villains, the antagonists, the bad guys or girls that often generate the real conflict novels need. So, today, I want to acknowledge those characters that make readers take sides, get the justice juices flowing, and more. I can’t abide an obvious bad guy, the one that is SO bad, you wonder why he hasn’t been locked up or shot already. They guy that everyone knows …

The Story

In the shadow of the nation’s capital, Kate Livingston’s respectable life as a government worker is disrupted by an encounter with the insufferable Trevor McDonough, the one man she’d hoped never to see again. A Harvard-trained physician, Trevor never showed the tiniest flicker of interest in Kate, and business is the only reason he has sought her out now.

Despite her misgivings, Kate agrees to Trevor’s risky proposal to join him in his work to find a cure for tuberculosis. As Kate

Cover Reveal: Ronie Kendig’s FALCON with giveaway!

RFFgiveawaysmlMy fabulous friend and stellar writer, Ronie Kendig, has just released the last cover in her Quiet Professionals Series ~ FALCON ~ which releases in May 2015 (groan, groan, I know!) .

I’ve long admired Kirk DouPonce‘s design and creativity but this cover is terrific at showcasing this story.

That’s still not the best part – there is a great story behind this cover. As with the cover models for Raptor 6 and Hawk, “Falcon” is another authentic, or as we would say down under, dinky-di American hero – Marine Sergeant Gabriel Martinez, a double amputee and

Bookish Question of the Week & The Wood’s Edge

QuoftheweekSo, I was going to whip up a super intelligent bookish question of the week but I got sidetracked by the cover reveal of Lori Benton‘s 2015 release, The Wood’s Edge.  If you have hung around here long enough you know what a fan I was of Lori’s debut novel, Burning Sky, and while I still have to post my review of The Pursuit of Tamsen Littlejohn, I can assure you it is a wonderful read, although didn’t push Burning Sky off its perch in my mind.

The Wood’s Edge is the first in the Pathfinders …

A book character that sticks in my mind is… Why? Rosa Hubberman of the Book Thief because she is so complex. On the surface she’s as crusty and brittle as toast, but she does things throughout the book that make you love her.

The last book that made me cry was… Kisses from Katie. I cried tears of joy for the beauty and simplicity of Katie’s love for the orphans (and for the miracles). But I also cried tears of sorrow at all …
