Bookchat with Patricia Bradley (with giveaway)

Relz Reviewz Banners (14)

I’m delighted to have Patricia Bradley back here at Relz Reviewz. Pat is a talented writer of suspense and today releases her fourth Memphis Cold Case novel, Justice Delivered. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Pat when I was in the US a few years back and you’d never know she’s someone who works out ways to kill people off! In Justice Delivered, Patricia, on a more serious note, shines a light on the very present danger of sex trafficking that is, sadly, not a figment of her imagination.

I hope you enjoy our bookchat today about this story, Patricia’s favourite lines(s), from Justice Delivered, and what she has learned while writing this novel. Once again, thanks to the generosity of Pat’s publisher, Revell Books, we have a giveaway of this novel and you can enter via the Rafflecopter form below.

Read about the story first, then enjoy my bookchat with Pat!

Justice Delivered cover

Carly Smith came by her trust issues honestly. A victim of sex trafficking, she’s been at the mercy of merciless men, ignored by law enforcement officers who should have helped her, and seemingly rejected by her family. She can’t even trust herself to do the right thing. Though she escaped her captors and is working hard on building a new life, the past continues to haunt her when she discovers that the man she couldn’t bring herself to report to police for fear of reliving her captivity is still out there, luring vulnerable girls under the guise of being a modeling agent.

When her own niece is kidnapped, Carly must overcome her fears and come forward with the information she has before it’s too late. When that proves to be not enough, she’ll have to go after the perpetrators herself.

Award-winning author Patricia Bradley keeps the suspense taut and the stakes high in this fast-paced story that will have readers turning pages long into the night.

Please share a little about Carly’s personality traits

Carly is a survivor and very independent and street smart. Once she makes up her mind to do something, it’s almost impossible to stop her.

Describe your book in 5 adjectives

I enjoyed writing this exchange between David Raines, the head of the cold case unit and his daughter, Lexi:

“How would you like it if Maggie went fishing with us tomorrow? And maybe went with us to Gigi’s?”

“Really? Cool.”

Idling at a traffic light, he glanced at her again. Lexi’s eyes were round and filled with . . . hope? “What?” he asked as she continued to stare at him.

“When are you going to ask Miss Maggie to marry you? I could use some help keeping you from working all the time, you know.”

“You’d like that?”

“Yeah. You’re not getting any younger, you know. If I’m ever going to have a brother or sister—”

What did your research about sex trafficking reveal that you would like others to know?

How prevalent it is and that it’s happening everywhere, even in my small hometown of 15,000 people.

Why romantic suspense?

Romantic suspense has always been my favourite genre to read starting with Daphne du Maurier, Victoria Hold and Mary Stewart and then onto Mary Higgins Clark.

Which element do you prefer writing, and why? (romance or suspense)

SUSPENSE. I’ve always said it’s easier to try and kill characters than to get them together. My romance is actually about developing relationships.

Which character did you enjoy writing most?

I loved writing all of them actually. But Carly tugged my heart.

Which character gave you the most grief?

Carly, because about halfway through the book she got mad at me and quit talking for a while. Evidently I had her do something she didn’t want to do. When I went back and fixed the problem, she started talking to me again.

What story is next for you?

I am working on a romantic suspense novel set in Natchez, Mississippi, featuring National Park Service Rangers.

If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?

I would tell my self to enjoy the writing journey and learn the craft so when God opens the publishing door, I’m ready to walk through it.

Which romantic suspense authors do you like to read? Or do you prefer to read outside your genre?

It would be such a long list if I named all the romantic suspense authors I like. Usually on Fridays I post a review of a book I’ve read that week…that’s where you’ll find my favourite authors.

Thanks so much for having me on your blog!

You are welcome, Pat 🙂Trainum_Pat
