Bookish Question of the Week

QuoftheweekxmasIt’s nearly Christmas, as if I needed to remind you! As you may imagine, my go to gifts are books, probably due to my Grandma always purchasing books for me every Christmas.

Do you buy books for your family? If so, do you buy books you know they will like, or are you someone who likes to choose something a little different from what you know they usually read?

Any books you have given over the years that have been real winners?

Basically, let talk books at Christmas!

  1. I don’t give books as gifts very often unless I know for sure the person wants the book. But my Christmas list every year is pretty much just a list of books I want.

  2. I like to buy books in the genre they like but ones that may not have heard of. Specific example for this year – my dad just loves political nonfiction conspiracy-type books. He’s read one about some kind of super-virus, another about some warships that Israel bombed so many years ago and was covered up, etc. So this summer when I saw The Spy Who Tried To Stop a War, signed by the local author and for sale by my library, I snatched it up. Can’t wait to give it to him!

  3. Hmmm….. I’m the only real “bookworm” in my family so gifting books has never been high on anyone’s list among my family/friends. But I decided to gift myself with an early Christmas book gift. Tamara Leigh’s 2nd book in “The Feud” Series is due for release on the 16th – “Baron of Emberly” – – so I’ve pre-ordered and am waiting by the chimney (Kindle) for my book gift to arrive – – “Merry Christmas to me!!” How about you Rel – – do you gift yourself??

  4. I will give books as gifts if I know the receiver will like it. Last year, I have my daughter Karen Witemyer’s latest book and a “ticket” to meet her at a May event that was held in Dallas. She was beyond excited!!

Now why everyone doesn’t want books, I just don’t understand. 🙂

  5. I do give books as gifts. My daughter will usually tell me which ones she wants. For my son, I usually get ones I think he will enjoy, since he doesn’t give me a list. I sometimes give books to others, ones I think (hope) they will enjoy. They are usually ones I’ve read and liked. I started giving books to my kids when they were very small so they are used to it now, at 19 and 25 years of age. They know they can give me books too (I provide a list).

  6. This is my first year gifting books. I hope that they’ll be well received. I remember the Christmas I received an Amazon giftcard- I was ecstatic because in my eyes that meant Kindle books.

  7. My husband gets a new book every year and I stick to the genres he likes but will choose new authors. My aunt gets the new Grisham every Christmas. Other book purchases come from wish lists of my kids. I have given up buying books for “nonreaders”. Too much disappointment on my end. LOL!

    • I love to give books for Christmas gifts, but I don’t give them unless I know exactly the kind of books the person will read. I’ve been mostly successful in my purchases and take great pleasure in finding the just-right book for those who appreciate reading.
