I’m loving the new direction Tyndale House Publishers is taking their cover design. Fresh, contemporary looks that will appeal to an extended audience, as these writers so richly deserve.
Genre specific and providing hints to the story inside, I’m drawn to each one, and want to look closer. Intrigued by every one of these synopses, it’s clear we have a wonderful year of reading ahead in 2021.
I can’t even pick a favourite from these offerings which is an unusual turn of events for me! Though I can’t wait to head back to the 80s with T. I. Lowe, as they represent my teenage years too!
How about you, my discerning reader friends? Which covers and stories do you love and long for?
PS. Trying something new by using extra large covers, so you can see every nuance. Does that work for you or do they take up too much of your screen? I’d love your feedback on this too, please!!
Under the Magnolias by T.I. Lowe
This night not only marked the end to the drought, but also the end to the long-held secret we’d kept hidden under the magnolias.
Magnolia, South Carolina, 1980
Austin Foster is barely a teenager when her mama dies giving birth to twins, leaving her to pick up the pieces while holding her six siblings together and doing her best to stop her daddy from retreating into his personal darkness.
Scratching out a living on the family’s tobacco farm is as tough as it gets. When a few random acts of kindness help to ease the Fosters’ hardships, Austin finds herself relying upon some of Magnolia’s most colorful citizens for friendship and more. But it’s next to impossible to hide the truth about the goings-on at Nolia Farms, and Austin’s desperate attempts to save face all but break her.
Just when it seems she might have something more waiting for her—with the son of a wealthy local family who she’s crushed on for years—her father makes a choice that will crack wide-open the family’s secrets and lead to a public reckoning. There are consequences for loving a boy like Vance Cumberland, but there is also freedom in the truth.
T. I. Lowe’s gritty yet tender and uplifting tale reminds us that a great story can break your heart . . . then heal it in the best possible way.

Chasing Shadows by Lynn Austin
For fans of bestselling WWII fiction comes a powerful novel from Lynn Austin about three women whose lives are instantly changed when the Nazis invade the neutral Netherlands, forcing each into a complicated dance of choice and consequence.
Lena is a wife and mother who farms alongside her husband in the tranquil countryside. Her faith has always been her compass, but can she remain steadfast when the questions grow increasingly complex and the answers could mean the difference between life and death?
Lena’s daughter Ans has recently moved to the bustling city of Leiden, filled with romantic notions of a new job and a young Dutch police officer. But when she is drawn into Resistance work, her idealism collides with the dangerous reality that comes with fighting the enemy.
Miriam is a young Jewish violinist who immigrated for the safety she thought Holland would offer. She finds love in her new country, but as her family settles in Leiden, the events that follow will test them in ways she could never have imagined.
The Nazi invasion propels these women onto paths that cross in unexpected, sometimes-heartbreaking ways. Yet the story that unfolds illuminates the surprising endurance of the human spirit and the power of faith and love to carry us through.

Love the cover for If It Rains most of all, but each one is gorgeous.

Your blog introduced me to T.I. Lowe’s books and I’m forever grateful and can’t wait to get a hold of this one.

I am a big TI Lowe and Carla Laureano fan. Since I’m a native Floridian, I can just look at a picture of magnolias and immediately smell the lemon scent. They are such a gorgeous flower – – but I will say those BIG magnolia leaves are a chore to rake up. But I am excited to see the upcoming books from both of these authors.
Tessa Afshar is always a good read. And I love the cover art for “If it Rains” and “An Ivy Hill Christmas”. Thanks for the previews, Rel & Necee – and have a Florida Christmas – “may your days be merry and bright and may all your Florida beaches be white!” Its the only shot I’ve got at snow – lol.
