Cover Love and Book News: Coming in early 2020 from Revell Books

Cover Art Headers (17)

I love sharing covers on my blog – even when you’ve likely seen most of them already, it’s great to have them in one place, don’t you think? Here’s Revell’s early 2020 releases for your enjoyment! Revell continues with tried and true cover design with nothing in this group particularly standing out as something unique and fresh in terms of cover design. Their designs are always professional and well put together, but I do have to say I’d love to see something out of the box every now and then. As I mentioned in a previous post, my preference these days lean away from people on covers and as you can see, all but one have the characters front and foremost, albeit Irene and Natalie’s characters are indistinguishable by design.

I love the background scenery on nearly all of these covers, particularly Laura’s and Sarah’s and would have loved them more minus the characters! I get that I’m likely in the minority in this regard, given the amount of Christian Fiction covers that feature close up images of characters.

In terms of reading, I’m particularly excited to begin a new adventurous series from  Susie May, and Laura’s will be a standout, as all her books are. There are plenty of other great storytellers in this group, so there’s some great reading ahead in 2020!

An Uncommon Woman

An Uncommon Woman by Laura Frantz

Unflinching and plainspoken, Tessa Swan is not your typical 18th-century woman. Born and bred on the western Virginia frontier along with her five brothers, she is a force to be reckoned with.

Quiet and courageous, Clay Tygart is not your typical 18th-century man. Raised by Lenape Indians, he returns a hero from the French and Indian War to the fort that bears his name, bringing with him Tessa’s long-lost friend, Keturah, a redeemed Indian captive like himself.

Determined to avoid any romantic entanglements as fort commander, Clay remains aloof whenever he encounters the lovely Tessa. But when she is taken captive by the tribe Clay left, his hand–and heart–are forced, leading to one very private and one very public reckoning.

Intense, evocative, and laced with intricate historical details that bring the past to life, An Uncommon Woman will transport you to the picturesque and dangerous western Virginia mountains of 1770.

Which of these covers/novels capture your eye? What do you think about people on covers? Yay or Nay?

11 Responses to Cover Love and Book News: Coming in early 2020 from Revell Books

  1. My favorite of these is Collateral Damage by Lynette Eason. It’s bold, it’s arresting, it’s captivating.

I am actually ok with people on the covers, . . . I like to “see” book characters when I am reading and the cover helps me do that. What I don’t like is a cover photo that doesn’t at all portray the person described in the book.

    Love these cover posts!

  2. Wow, the one I am immediately drawn to is Melody Carlson’s–it’s so different from the other covers and it just looks happy! And then, Sarah Sundin’s–that pop of red is so striking!

  3. Hey Rel! Well, we do tend to disagree sometimes on covers. 🙂 I do prefer people covers. There are some covers without people I do love a lot, but I find some of them reveal nothing of the story, which I like the cover to do. I think that may be why so many historicals have people on the cover as the fact the story is historical can be shown through the appearance, especially the clothes, of the people pictured. With that said, I LOVE Laura’s cover! Colonial period on the Appalachian frontier…I am there!!! I totally agree with Ronie about Sarah Sundin’s cover. That red is so striking! I like Amanda Cabot’s split cover a lot, too. The gray wood is a great touch. Jill Eileen Smith’s cover is a great depiction of Esther. The farm in the background looks very inviting in Suzanne Woods Fisher’s cover. Susie’s cover is great. I especially love the logo with the series title and number. Lynette Eason’s cover really works to me as it appears strong and gives a sense of action with her unkempt hair and the helicopters. I love the spooky Southern mansion on Natalie Walters’ cover. The night cityscape works well for Lisa Harris’s cover. I always prefer a rocky shore over a sandy beach, so I like Irene Hannon’s. I love so many of Melody Carlson’s stories, and I am sure this one is wonderful, too, but I find this cover to be a bit cartoonish. It is cute, but maybe a bit too cute. As always, thanks for sharing, Rel. Blessings to you!

  4. Happy Camper has the cutest cover! We are a camping family, so that one caught my eye.

  5. Love them! Thanks for sharing, there were two that I was able to add to my Goodreads list! I’ll be reading The Way of the Brave, An Uncommon Woman, and Two Steps Forward.

  6. OOO, I love these! I think Lynette Eason’s is my fav! Intriguing!

  7. oh, these are great!! 🙂
My favorite cover…um…well, it’s gotta be Collateral Damage. But Silent Shadows and The Traitor’s Pawn are very close.
And then, I really like The Happy Camper..it looks so…happy. 🙂
And Sarah Sundin’s is also beautiful!
Thanks for sharing these, I look forward to reading them!!

  8. I love all of these! They sound like amazing stories.

  9. Ok Rel – – I’ll stand in your corner – – it is RARE a people cover draws me. I just like a more “out of the box” cover. Plus I think it “pigeon holes” the character(s). Let me use my imagination. My idea of what the H/H look like is going to be far different from yours – and that’s ok. I don’t mind a far away shot of the back of someone sitting on a dock – but that much hints at an image while leaving a lot to the imagination. So my Australian friend – you’ve got one Yankee (actually I’m a southerner) on your side!

  10. Lots of great reading ahead! I like most of the covers and find Sarah Sundin’s to be particularly stunning.

  11. Loving the suspense novels covers…and I like people on the cover.
Great to see Lynette Eason has a new series starting
