First Line Friday: Roseanna M. White’s The Number of Love (with giveaway)

First Line Friday

Well, it has been very quiet at Relz Reviewz that past week or so! Sorry about that. Busyness has a way of impacting my beloved blog which makes me a bit sad. This blog continues to be a labour of love for me – one I want to keep up so I readers and writers can discover each other, so please forgive the times when work and family and other commitments and a migraine here or there need my attention. But I’m back today with my First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books.

I’m sharing the first line from Roseanna M. White’s The Number of Love, the first in her new Codebreakers series and one I haven’t quite managed to get to just yet. I aim to change that soon. If you’ve been paying attention to reviews from any of Roseanna’s books, you are likely to have heard murmurings about her heroes…and all in a good way! Apparently, Drake is no exception 🙂

Roseanna’s heroine is a maths whiz, not a gift I have, that’s for sure, so it will be fun to read about this gifted woman, don’t you think?

The Number of Love

The Toughest Puzzle She’ll Have to Solve
Might Be the Wishes of Her Own Heart

Three years into the Great War, England’s greatest asset is their intelligence network–field agents risking their lives to gather information, and codebreakers able to crack German telegrams for hints of the enemy’s plans. Margot De Wilde thrives in the environment of the secretive Room 40, where she spends her days deciphering intercepted messages. But when her world is turned upside down by an unexpected loss, she discovers for the first time in her life that numbers aren’t enough.

Drake Elton returns wounded from the field, followed by an enemy who just won’t give up. He’s smitten quickly by the quick and brainy Margot, but soon the dangers of the war draw ever closer. Margot and Drake will have to team up to save themselves from the very secrets that brought them together.Roseanna 2018

Roseanna M. White is a bestselling, Christy Award nominated author who has long claimed that words are the air she breathes. When not writing fiction, she’s homeschooling her two kids, editing, designing book covers, and pretending her house will clean itself. Roseanna is the author of a slew of historical novels that span several continents and thousands of years. Spies and war and mayhem always seem to find their way into her books…to offset her real life, which is blessedly ordinary. You can learn more about her and her stories at www.RoseannaMWhite.com.

  1. I am very excited to read this book! I would say I am more of a words person myself. Once I hit junior high school math would betray me every lesson. I would much rather deal with words.

  2. I have heard a lot of great things about this book. I guess I need to get reading! Have a great weekend, Rel.

  3. I happily left Algebra II behind me with a hard earned D- and have never looked back. I’m HORRIBLE at math and haven’t gotten any better. To this day I have NEVER once needed to use a mixture of alphabet and numbers!

  4. I have read lots about this book! It has been on my TBR List a long time. I’m fascinated by people who can do this type of thing! Math was definitely not in my Gift Set. It was missing along with skills in Arts & Crafts. However, I can give you a Inspirational Talk anytime, anywhere, under any conditions & without any prior notice no matter how small or large the group. THAT was in my Gift Set!

  5. I’m more of a words person, but I like numbers too–especially in puzzles. Sudoku is just as fun as a cryptoquip, which is as much fun as a crossword. When it comes down to it, most math is essentially a logic puzzle, just boiled down to its bare bones. And I like puzzles.

Also, most of my in-laws are very mathematically-minded, and I hate appearing at a disadvantage, so even if my inclination is toward art and language, I will maintain my skills with numbers if it kills me.

  6. Without question, I’m a words person. They feel alive to me almost with a personality of their own.

  7. Happy Friday!

Today on my blog I’m sharing the first couple of lines from No Greater Love by Gina Holder. It’s a really good book! I’m currently on chapter 25, so I’ll share the first line from there.

“If his sister fluffed his pillow one more time, Hamilton was going to lose his last shred of sanity.”

Hope you have an excellent weekend. 😀❤📚

  8. Today on my blog I’m featuring the first line from No Greater Love by Gina Holder but It’s also my current read so I’ll share the first line from chapter 15 here: “Kathleen tucked her legs under the steering wheel of her rental.” Hope you have a great weekend with lots of reading time!

  9. Betsy Tieperman

I can’t wait to read this book! I have loved all of the books I have ever read by Roseanna White.

  10. Paula Shreckhise

Loved loved loved The Number of Love!
My first line is from The Express Bride by Kim Woodhouse:
    Prologue:
    St. Louis, March 1834
With shaking limbs, she climbed into the plush carriage awaiting her, the precious bundle in her arms worth far more than the money, trinkets and trunks of clothing she left behind.
Wonderful book. Check out the whole series of The Daughters of the Mayflower.

  11. Happy Friday! My first line is from “Edge of Truth” by Kimberly Rose Johnson:

“The hair on Kara Nelson’s neck prickled as she sat behind the wheel of her car parked near the Miami Beach Marina. Something wasn’t right.”

  12. I am a word person. Beautiful cover.

  13. I think I’m more of a words person though I do like numbers (until they get too hard!). I’m really wanting to read The Number of Love. I just re-read A Name Unknown for book club, which is the first book in the Shadows Over England series. We meet Margo in the second book.

  14. Happy Friday! I’m sharing from The Crossing at Cypress Creek by Pam Hillman on my blog today. I’m only a few pages in, and this is my favorite line so far:

“Her stomach did a slow roll at the unexpected lilt of an Irish brogue.”

  15. I’ve heard great things about this book!

Today I’m sharing on my blog the first line from The Art of Rivers by Janet W. Ferguson.

Love, like art, took on different forms with each creator.

  16. Words person.

  17. Danielle Hammelef

As an engineer and author, I am both a number and word person.

  18. I’ve always been more of a numbers person, though my writing skills aren’t too shabby either. I prefer working with numbers, though. I can’t wait to read about this heroine!

  19. I am definitely more of a words person. Algebra and especially geometry were a struggle for me in school.

  20. I loved this book! (And would love it on my bookshelves 😉 ) I’m totally a words person. Not that I did awful in math, but it was definitely harder for me. 🙂

  21. As a writer, I’m more a word than numbers person. I enjoy puzzles and I LOVED this book! (My blog about it overflows with superlatives.) Superb story-telling ~ if anyone needs any encouragement to read it. 🙂 And in my opinion, that cover is PERFECT.

Hope your busyness is fun, Rel; not headaches. Praying that for you.

  22. sounds like a great book!

  23. I was never a math person, but I love crosswords puzzles! I’ve also done simple cryptogram puzzles in the newspaper or word scrambles. I don’t think I’d be as good as Margot in cracking codes though!

Thanks for the book spotlight and giveaway, Rel!

  24. I am a words person. I still write letters and send them by snail mail.

  25. Just started “The Number of Love” today. The reviews are amazing. I feel blessed that God knows the number of the hairs of my head – and even more blessed that He knows my name. To count my blessings is enough – to read and hear His Words is a high honor.

  26. Becky Richardson

    Can’t wait to read this!
