Let It Be Me by Becky Wade (with giveaway)

Synopsis:~

The one woman he wants is the one he cannot have.

Former foster kid Sebastian Grant has leveraged his intelligence and hard work to become a pediatric heart surgeon. But not even his career success can erase the void he’s tried so hard to fill. Then he meets high school teacher Leah Montgomery and his fast-spinning world comes to a sudden stop. He falls hard, only to make a devastating discovery–Leah is the woman his best friend set his heart on months before.

Leah’s a math prodigy who’s only ever had one big dream–to earn her PhD. Raising her little brother put that dream on hold. Now that her brother will soon be college bound, she’s not going to let anything stand in her way. Especially romance . . . which is far less dependable than algebra.

When Leah receives surprising results from the DNA test she submitted to a genealogy site, she solicits Sebastian’s help. Together, they comb through hospital records to uncover the secrets of her history. The more powerfully they’re drawn to each other, the more strongly Sebastian must resist, and the more Leah must admit that some things in life–like love–can’t be explained with numbers.

Necee’s take:~

“The thing is,” she whispered, “I don’t need a man in my life. I have math.”

Let It Be Me grabbed my heart from the start and still hasn’t let go! The reality, friendship and sweetness of Leah, Ben, and Sebastian’s story stole my breath away. Leah and Sebastian don’t think they need a long-term relationship, until they meet one another. However, Sebastion would never get in the way of his best friend, Ben’s happiness.  The sparks fly and the chemistry is tangible at times as everything changes, and yet they have so much to overcome. I love the cerebral thinking they relate to that is challenged by their developing emotions. Leah was a wonderful heroine and strong role model.

“He was a heart surgeon who did not understand the inner workings of his own heart.”

Sebastian was the perfect hunky doctor with layers he has to work through to be in a relationship. Both of their hearts for kids was enviable. All of the Star Wars references added fun to the story as well.

“It really was exceptional, the combustion that thickened the air when they were together. Like “the force” in Star Wars—invisible and powerful.”

Wade wrote a book with so many depths and layers that my emotions were all over the place. She stresses the importance and beauty of being real in relationships. I am really loving this series and cannot wait for the next book to come out. What a beautiful and unexpected ending to this story. Oh, and I absolutely loved the beautiful updates from prior books in the series. Truly swoon worthy reading!

“When you met a man you couldn’t help but love . . . it changed everything.”

I was given a copy of this book through NetGalley and by the publisher. All opinions are my own and are given honestly.

  1. No, I favored history, hated math, and was okay with the rest. 😉

  2. I likes mostly the business course I took as i went to secretarial school after high school. Later i discovered that I liked working with my hands better so worked in manufacturing as an assembler and machine operator for about 32 years.

English and grammar were my favorite subjects in school! 😀 It wasn’t until college that I found algebra to actually be understandable and a little bit fun.

  4. Perrianne Askew

I was an excellent English and grammar student, but our school was definitely weak in math and the sciences. I didn’t excel at those anyway, but did enjoy our awesome art instructor. Our choices were pretty limited for electives anyway.

  5. No, my favorites were history and English.

  6. English in high school and studied nursing in college. Thanks for the chance.

  7. I definitely preferred humanities courses over math and science, both in high school and college. Thank you for the opportunity! Sounds like a great book!

    Hey Becky,

I absolutely love History when I was in high school
And I still love history! I love all the things that are behind history
And what made it. I went to see Pearl Harbor 2 yrs ago and
that was amazing, I wish I could have stayed on the island a bit longer but the things that I saw we’re absolutely amazing.
I love that you find real people and use them in your books.
The cover is also amazing too.

  16. I loved my math classes in both high school and college!

    • I’m definitely more of a math/science person. I enjoy reading, but did not enjoy English/language arts in school.

  17. I enjoyed both, as long as I had a good teacher!

  18. I did not have STEM in high school. My youngest daughter has participated in this program in elementary and in middle school. She had an awesome 3rd grade teacher who loved to teach the kids about science.

  19. My favorite subjects were the social sciences. I am intrigued by the human mind and how it works.
