Synopsis:~
Sometimes, the only hope is the enemy.
Leif Metcalfe is done waiting for answers and seizes control, a move that comes with a high price and a deadly risk: teaming up with the enemy. He can only hope that what he uncovers will heal the wounds he’s inflicted on those he loves.
Iskra Todorova believes Leif is on a collision course with death and knows firsthand the irrevocable cost of that path to the soul. While trying to protect her daughter and intervene with Leif, Iskra is forced to set her sights on the man behind the evil organization ArC–Ciro Veratti.
Torn apart by injuries and opposing views on how to handle Leif’s act of treachery, team Reaper hunts one of their own. The only thing they agree on is not stopping but starting the final battle prophesied in the Book of the Wars.
Necee’s take:~
The opening was thrilling. The middle was nail biting. The ending was intensely satisfying and well worth the wait for the conclusion of the The Book of The Wars series. I didn’t want it to end, but am always excited to see what Kendig will write next. Soul Raging was an intense read from the first sentence to the last and ohhh my, that final sentence made the whole series come to a thrilling conclusion.
“Leif had gone all Jason Bourne on them.”
I won’t lie, this was an emotional read with so many curve balls thrown, my head was spinning! As Leif disappears and Iskra takes off after him with a team not knowing if he’s turned on them or not, it left me unsure who to trust and what would happen next. There is only so much I can divulge here without giving away the storyline. Needless to say the rapid-fire fiction of Kendig is full steam ahead in Soul Raging.
Canyon rolled around with a grin. Saito sniggered. “You love ticking him off.”
“One of life’s finer pleasures.” Canyon nodded to Iskra.
Witty banter keeps this team going and is one of the great pleasures of reading this series. However, there is a whole aspect of distrust that darkened the storyline. Talking about who to trust, the Reaper Team had me going through every emotion in this book. Grief, love, sadness, fear, joy, hate, and just pure happiness at the end. I could just feel the team’s emotions and that made the story come to life. Canyon Metcalfe added a whole new intensity to Leif’s character and Reaper, too. Iskra and Mercy were superheroes in my book and as always, I loved Mercy’s sense of humor. Cell drove me nuts, but then he drives the whole team nuts, so that sounds about right. This is not a read for the light-hearted as you never know who to trust and who will stick around until the end. Yet the ending was sublime and well worth the ride. I loved it!
“God’s character does not change because we are hurt by a situation that does change.”
Powerful words that are a constant reminder of who God is in an ever-changing world. If you love action packed storylines, you’ll love this series. I highly recommend reading the entire series in order or you will probably be lost. It is well worth reading and now you don’t have to wait for the next book!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
