The Raveling by Tamara Leigh

RR Post headers (11)Synopsis:~

BY HONOR BOUND TO SEEK THE FOUND, HERE BEGINS A TALE

Sir Elias De Morville is no ordinary man of the sword, possessing both the heart of a warrior and a troubadour. When he sets out to rescue a boy who may be his son, more than ever he must prove worthy of the Wulfrith dagger that ranks him among the greatest of knights. And more difficult it becomes when not only must he protect the enigmatic woman who aids him, but guard against attraction to one forbidden him—she whose deceit could bring his family to its knees.

OF RAVELING AND TRAVELING BEYOND THE MOONLIT VEIL

Honore of no surname is of the world only insofar as she ventures into it to pluck unwanted children from dark places. When a foundling is stolen from the abbey, her greatest hope of recovering him is a knight to whom she dare not reveal her face nor the identity of the rebel priest whose flight from King Henry they aid. Finding herself cast in the role of Sir Elias’s wife, she struggles against a heart that longs to be his in truth. And prays what seems a necessary deception does not lay ruin to him.

My take:~

Sir Elias.

If you have read Tamara Leigh’s Age of Faith series, I hardly need say more! But for those of you yet to experience the talented pen of Leigh, I must. While the heroes of this series tend to lean more towards broadswords and a paucity of words to communicate their intentions, Sir Elias has the heart of a troubadour and the mind of a poet. That’s not to say he can’t wield a sword should the need arise – he is Wulfrith trained after all – but his appeal lies in his way with words and compassionate and loyal heart. Filled to the brim with fascinating historical gems, The Raveling is the perfect balance of medieval intricacies, romantic moments, and tension inducing strife as Elias and Honore wrestle inner demons and external forces intent on severing their emotional ties. Beautifully wrought, this story is one to savour, the elegant prose as alluring as the romance that stirs between two gentle souls.

  1. Hello, dear Rel! Oh my word, what a lovely, pen-inspiring review! I’m so tickled you enjoyed Sir Elias and Honore’s tale. They are definitely unique–and especially my troubadour knight who, despite my uncertainty, assured me he could be written no other way. You bless me!

  2. Amen, Rel, AMEN! Finished it a few days ago and although I prefer my knights more rough and tumble, Elias won me over with his tender spirit and silvery tongue. Tamara Leigh outdid herself in this book which was true poetry in motion, proving noble knights can be lovers AND fighters.

  3. Fanning myself. Again

  4. I am still s-l-o-w-l-y reading my way through The Raveling. I akin Tamara’s stories to a Southern Pot Roast – read it low and slow – low on a soft sofa with a cup of tea and slowly devour each word. I especially liked the heroine Honore as she was born with a birth defect and in medieval days this was almost a death sentence. She was raised to hide her defect which would normally lead to an inferiority complex but she allowed Honore to rise above her defect and make her a champion of foundling children whom she rescued from being left out in the woods and a sure death. That takes courage!! So the truth this story imparted to me was that although Sir Elias with all his knightly abilities and skill, Honore also had a brave and courageous streak in her that made her just as noble. God chooses whom He will to accomplish His goals. And it may be the mighty arm of a knight or the fragile heart of a maiden – but it’s God’s choice – – all we need to be is available. Good job Tamara! and your son (Elias) is most handsome – worthy of the Wulfrith dagger!

    • Thank you, Pam! I’m glad you’re s-l-o-w-l-y reading through the tale, enjoying it, and seeing God’s hand upon these two characters. And biased me must agree–Skyler is a worthy Sir Elias 🙂

  5. Exceptional review, Rel! I haven’t had the pleasure of reading Tamara Leigh’s books yet. They are on my MUST read list! 😉
