Top Ten Tuesday ~ Favourite Bookmarks (with giveaway)

Top Ten Tuesday

It’s another Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and we are talking bookmarks!

I’ve never found bookmarks terribly useful in books. I rarely use them to hold my place in a book, nor to a do the unpardonable and fold corners, or stick in a tissue, chocolate wrapper, or use money to hold my place. I’ve always found my place in a book by flipping through until I pick up where I left off. I love the idea of bookmarks but my execution was always poor. I actually love bookmarks – especially ones signed by authors – but I’m notorious for putting them down and then closing the book, forgetting to put the bookmark back in place when I finished reading. Until now! But more on that later…

Here’s ten of my favourite bookmarks that I’ve collected over the years – ones created by the authors and/or their publisher. As you can see many of these are signed which makes them even more special, and if you look closely, you’ll even see one has my endorsement on it. Because I love each of these writers, these bookmarks are special even if I don’t use them in my books – I certainly don’t want to lose them, so I keep them in a desk credenza. I hope they don’t mind not being used for their exact purpose!

Then Ronie Kendig introduced me to elasticated bookmarks and I haven’t looked back! Because they stay wrapped around the book, I don’t lose them. Genius. The one in the photo below is a gift from Ronie, celebrating her Rapid-Fire Fiction, with an RFF medallion and a sword – love it! I’ve taken to making them myself. Me, who doesn’t have a crafting gene in my body – LOL! It’s amazing what one will do for their love of books 🙂

Do you use bookmarks? What kind do you love? I’ll choose a commenter at random and send you one of my own bookmark creations, similar to the one in the photo above – open to all!

  1. I love bookmarks and I do use them. In fact, I have an entire drawer in a den side table full of them.Every once in awhile I pull them out when my book club is there and let them look through them and take one (if it’s a duplicate, of course). And if they are signed? They stay right there in the drawer until I use them again.

  2. I love bookmarks have some from Author’s that go with books

  3. Ronie is quite the star when it comes to bookmarks, it seems! Lol!

And I had to zoom in, but I finally found which bookmark had your endorsement. 🙂

  4. I love the cardstock bookmarks that have tassels however I have trouble keeping the tassels on and then don’t love the “tassel-less” bookmark as much so it gives me an excuse to buy a new one. 🙂

  5. Very pretty bookmarks there.

    My TTT.

  6. When I visited the “real” Downton Abbey (aka Highclere Castle) this summer, I bought a magnetic bookmark in their gift shop. But I’m going to be honest and admit I haven’t even taken it out of it’s package because I want to keep it pretty. 🙂

  7. I have one signed bookmark from Dakota Cassidy that I’ve had for a million years. 🙂 How cool you’ve got one with your own endorsement on it, though!

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

  8. I have bookmarks, but I don’t always use them. I tend to use bookmarks or mail. LOL

  9. I’m not great at using actual bookmarks. I use playing cards a lot.

Here’s my post this week: https://speedyreadercom.wordpress.com/2019/11/12/ttt-childhood-favorites/

  10. YAY!! I LOVE making bookmarks to match the book I’m reading–in fact, I just made two last night. And I often use the bookmarks you made for me! LOVE them!!! My other favorite is a bronze/metal bookmark engraved with a quote from Brandon Sanderson’s MISTBORN series. It’s gorgeous!

  11. I actually have two metal thin-line ones that slip in books and have a ribbon on the outside with a metal charm. (one from Kate Breslin for her Not By Sight book release) So clever and heavy enough to stay put! I also have two of Ronie’s homemade elastic ones and those are life savers. Bookmarks tend to slide out of my books. What a fun top ten post! Now I want to go through my collection. 🙂

  12. I use bookmarks all the time. I love having one that matches the book. The stretchy ones look fantastic! I need to check into those!

  13. While I would love to say “I’m no quitter, therefore I don’t need a bookmark”, I absolutely do need a bookmark. I adore the shiny sturdy paper ones just because they can be so pretty. Also, when reading at work and I have to quickly stop to help a customer, they are the easiest to quickly throw into the book. But, I too was blessed to receive an elastic style bookmark from Ronie Kendig and they are great! When I toss my book into my purse the elastic style ones don’t slide out of the book.

  14. I absolutely love bookmarks! I collect them. I always use them. Every time. I try to match my bookmark to the book cover when possible. And I have that Robert Liparulo bookmark. Signed!

  15. I always use a bookmark. If I have one that matches the book, I’ll use that. Though I have lots of bookmarks from various sources, the one I use most often is large, made of plastic with a poem about sisters on it. It has a ribbon on the top so is easy to find it in the book. It was in a birthday card from my sister so that is another reason I like to use it.

  16. My favorites are the elastic wit the charms from Ronie Kendig. So cool!

  17. I love matching bookmarks. Yay book swag. I have lots. I have saved them since my library had tons to give away, maybe 20 years ago. One set was the dewey decimal system. Another set was Wishbone stories. I’ve never had an elastic one, but I have a magnetic one from Michelle Griep. And a crocheted one from Liz Tolsma. And Susie Dietze gave me one with a cameo on it for Cameo Courtships! I like to give duplicates to my present library. It helps promote books! Try putting one in a different book from the same author when you return it to the library!

  18. I have a huge collection of bookmarks, and love using them. My favorites are thinner ones with tassles. 🙂

  19. Can I just say how happy it makes me to see two of the bookmarks I designed among your favorites? Camy Tang and Sharon Hinck. They’re a couple of my favorites too. 🙂

  20. I love bookmarks! Especially ones signed by the author!

    Your collection is amazing!

  21. Enjoyed seeing your collection. Yes, I love bookmarks and always use one. I pick out a different one from my collection for each book I read.

  22. I love bookmarks so much that when my friend went back home to visit her parents in Japan, she brought me back a fabric bookmark that I love (it has an embroidered frog holding a lily pad as an umbrella–so adorable).

  23. I always use bookmarks. The ones I’ve been using lately clips onto the page, but lots of time they come loose and fall off. An elasticized bookmark sounds like a great idea.

  24. Yes! I love bookmarks and my favorites are book thongs that I make because they don’t fall out of the book 🙂

  25. I always lose bookmarks too. Well, I did. I use magnetic bookmarks now. I stick them in the front of the book or on the jacket when I’m reading. The few I’ve lost (in a year) was because I’m pretty sure I left them in a book somewhere. So they’re around…

  26. I like bookmarks that hold up through multiple books. But really if I can find one, that works too. 🙂 I like your bookmark. Thanks.

  27. Love bookmarks. Have made quite a few for special books on my shelf.

  28. I love bookmarks and use them, but also give them away when I share my books.
I want to learn how to make those elasticized bookmarks!

  29. Scattered cushions across the room with embroidered
pictures of numerous Disney characters will perk up
the whole occasion making the whole scene jump out
in saying this very day is all about baby. The newborn baby will simply actually
need a few items and it’s also not going to be bothered by devoid of the most up-to-date item that’s in fashion. You can also try rubbing your child’s
gums with your finger or applying a smaller amount teething gel.
