Back with another Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week is a page to screen freebie topic, so I chose movies/mini-series that didn’t ruin the book for me! It goes without saying that movies can’t do a novel justice. You simply can’t squeeze in hundreds of pages of story, characterisation, nuanced storytelling, and subtext into a couple of hours. That said, here are ten movies/mini-series that did well telling the story and developing the characters in the limited time they had that I enjoyed for what they were and with the proviso mentioned, didn’t ruin my prior enjoyment of the novels they represented!
I’d love you to share some movies that haven’t ruined the book for you, too!

I included the Colin Firth P&P too, but chose the Ciaran Hinds Persuasion. I really liked the movies The Help and Hidden Figures. I have not read those books. Good post. Thanks for sharing!
I enjoyed Hidden Figures and The Help but I never read the books!

Jo » They are well worth reading, Jo. Thanks for stopping by!
Hidden Figures was fabulous. Nice choice there.
My TTT.
Lydia » Thank you!
Loved Hidden Figures! I really need to read it now.
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
Cholla » Thanks for sharing your list, Cholla. Agree with your on The Hunger Games movies 🙂
Hidden Figures was so good! I liked North and South and Lord of the Rings too. Great take on this week’s topic!
Brooke Lorren » Thanks 🙂 North and South is my favourite!! Because Richard 😉
The Help was spot on!
TI Lowe » I loved it. Saw the movie before I read the book, so it will have a special place in my heart 🙂
I actually HAVE watched some of these! I’d love to read all the books though. Wasn’t this topic fun?! My TTT is a date night wishlist!
Beth Erin » Loved your take on the topic!
Hey Rel. I can think of a few for me:
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (2005 version)
A Christmas Carol (1984 version with George C. Scott)
Love Comes Softly (2003 Hallmark movie)
A Vow to Cherish (1999)
The last two made some changes I wondered about, but they were still good movies of equally good books. Great topic, Rel.
Aaron McCarver » Nice list, Aaron 🙂
These are great selections! I especially loved The Lord of the Rings production! The Help was great! I saw The Help here in Mississippi and the audience gave it a standing ovation at the end. It was very special.
Janet Ferguson » I’m sure that would have been a great experience, Janet!
The Outsiders really was an excellent adaption! And that cast!!!
Carolyn Astfalk » Yes!!!! I had a major crush on a couple of those boys back in my teen years 😉
What a great list! I have to add The Princess Bride to the list. The book and movie are a bit different so the movie didn’t spoil the book at all. In fact – I might have to say the movie was better! At least way more quotable. LOL
Susan P » Love The Princess Bride – my daughter has read the book, but I haven’t yet.
OH yes! There are only a couple up there that I haven’t seen… but the others I so agree. I would also say that if felt the Hunger Games Trilogy was actually (so rare, and don’t hate me!) better on screen. 😉
Jennifer Rodewald » Glad you loved many of them, too!
