Lindsay’s Fast Favourites

Animal

I have two golden retrievers and they are really sweet and loyal. Of course, they’re a bit hyper and one is overly anxious, but they are really great animals.

Artist

Uhhh, I basically know nothing about art, haha. So maybe I’ll go with someone super famous, like da Vinci.

Board Game

Yahtzee!  My grandpa taught me and my brother how to play, so we were always very strategic and competitive about it. It was fun. 😉

Book

What an impossible question! Other than the Bible (obvious answer, right?), I’d say the Anne of Green Gables series had the most impact on me as a young writer who dreamed of greatness.

Colour

Hot pink!

Flower

Hot pink roses

pink-roses-3941883_1920

Ice-cream

Cookies and cream

Movie

Pride & Prejudice – the Colin Firth version, of course.

Non-writing activity

Reading! Is that cheating? If not reading, then probably binge watching something on Hulu or Netflix. I used to be a lot more fun, and then I had kids. 😛

Reading genre

This is so hard, because it really depends on the mood I’m in. I’ll blow through a bunch of romantic suspense novels and then feel in a historical mood. Then, I feel like I want the depth of women’s fiction, or I’ll get bit by the contemporary romance bug. I feel like I’m always in the mood for historical romance set in Victorian England, though.

Season

Fall! A lot of great things happen in fall—it finally cools down after a looooooong Arizona summer, and then of course there’s my birthday, Thanksgiving, my anniversary, ACFW, etc.

Snack

Honeycrisp apples (why do any other apples even exist?)

Sport (watch or play)

I never watch sports, but I did grow up watching football (American football) with my dad.

TV show

I have loved a lot of shows that are no longer on the air. Currently, I’m really enjoying The Resident and The Rookie.

I really enjoy the scene in The Secrets of Paper and Ink where William teaches Sophia to surf. Her former fiancé always told her it was a ridiculous dream, but William believes in her enough to teach her. I just love how it not only brings the two of them closer together, but allows Sophia to move forward with her dream of learning something new and totally outside of her comfort zone.

Thanks Lindsay!

The Secrets of Paper and Ink

Brought together by a charming bookstore in England, three women fight to defy expectations, dream new dreams, and welcome love into their lives.

As a counselor, Sophia Barrett is trained to help people cope with their burdens. But when she meets a new patient whose troubles mirror her own, she realizes she hasn’t dealt with the pain of her recent past. After making a snap decision to get away for the summer, Sophia moves overseas to an apartment above a charming bookstore in Cornwall, England. She is hopeful she will find peace there surrounded by her favorite thing: great literature.

Bookstore owner Ginny Rose is desperate to save her business without asking for help from a husband who’s decided to take a break from their marriage. Ginny never imagined she’d be solely responsible for keeping afloat her husband’s dream, but the unexpected friendship with her new renter has her feeling more optimistic. Between the two of them—and Ginny’s brother-in-law, William—the bookstore might stand a chance.

Then Sophia finds a notebook in the bookstore that contains journal entries from Emily Fairfax, a governess who lived in Cornwall more than 150 years ago. Sophia learns that Emily harbored a secret passion for becoming an authoress—as well as a deep love for her childhood friend, Edward, whose station she dared not dream to touch.

Eager to know more of Emily’s story, Sophia goes on a quest—dragging Ginny and William with her—to discover the heart of the woman behind the beautiful entries. Soon Ginny’s need to save the bookstore becomes more than a way to save her marriage, and Sophia finds new purpose of her own. Together they find that sometimes both heartache and hope can reach across the centuries.Lindsay Harrel

She and I have the same likes of seasons. The crazy thing is, I too have my birthday and anniversary in the fall. It’s a beautiful time of the year when all the leaves on the trees are so colorful, the air is crisp, and a time to start drinking hot chocolate and sit in front of a fireplace with a good book. WAIT… that’s all the time! Hehe!
