Acceptable Risk by Lynette Eason (with giveaway)

Synopsis:~

Sarah Denning is a military journalist with the Army in the Middle East when her convoy is attacked and she’s taken hostage. When former Army Ranger Gavin Black is asked by his old unit commander–Sarah’s imposing father–to plan an extremely risky rescue, he reluctantly agrees and successfully executes it.

Back in the US, Sarah is livid when she’s discharged on a false psychiatric evaluation and vows to return to the Army. Until she learns of her brother’s suicide. Unable to believe her brother would do such a thing, she puts her plans on hold and enlists Gavin to help her discover the truth. What they uncover may be the biggest story of Sarah’s career–if she can survive long enough to write it.

Necee’s take:~

“Thank you, Captain Obvious. I hadn’t noticed.”

A nonstop thrill ride of mystery, suspense and intrigue, I loved the witty repertoire of these characters. Eason weaved together a storyline that is the fear of every veteran… and I speak this truth as a veteran myself. I won’t say much more about it as I don’t want to give away the plot. However, she writes masterfully regarding military life, the Taliban, and the struggles of veterans dealing with the VA hospital when they come home.

“Sometimes you need someone to step in and save you from yourself.”

I love the witty banter and strong female role models. Sarah’s heart for the truth and the way she can bring the facts together as a military journalist made for an inspiring read. I loved Gavin’s heart for her. His protective nature and love for her could be seen right from the beginning. As it took time for Sarah to catch up with those feelings, she learns to let go of the distrust she has for others. Letting go of her past and accepting help from others are part of Sarah’s journey. She not only learns to forgive others who have inflicted pain, but also to forgive herself. I love the heart of this story, but I especially enjoyed the way Eason kept my attention from beginning until end. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Susan May Warren, Ronie Kendig, and nonstop romantic suspense. My favorite line was this one showing how much we can do things in our own, but how beautiful it is when we allow others to help.

“He cupped her face and met her gaze. “You’re one of the strongest people I know. You’ve got this. And I’ve got you.’”

Acceptable Risk is the second book from the Danger Never Sleeps series, so I’d recommend starting with Book One, Collateral Damage. However, it could easily be read as a standalone. I loved the first one too, though!

I received an ARC through NetGalley by the publisher. I have given my honest opinion in this review.

  1. I’ve read over a 100 books so far this year, but don’t have a break down of how many of them are romantic suspense. Since this is my absolute favorite genre I’d say they make up more than half of that number. Anxious to add this one to the count.

  2. I’m not sure how many would exactly fall into that genre, but I do enjoy it. I read print books only and I’m currently on book 54. Thanks for the chance.

  3. 14 – Maybe more!

  4. I’ve read 30 — Most recently “Minutes to Die” by Susan Sleeman!

  5. Lelia (Lucy) Reynolds

I looked at my reading on Goodreads for this year and I think I’ve read 13 in the Romantic Suspense category. Thank you for the chance. Blessings

  6. I am looking forward to this book. I really enjoyed the first one.

  7. Danielle Hammelef

I’ve only read one so far, and I love the edge-of-seat writing that keeps me reading.

  8. Elizabeth Litton

I honestly don’t know, but at least two dozen or more. I thought Collateral Damage was very good, so I’ve been looking forward to reading Acceptable Risk.

  9. I’ve read three so far this year.

  10. I’ve lost track of how many!

  11. Just a few so far. Sounds like a great book. Thanks.

  12. Jessica Alvarado

I’ve lost count but at least 6 came to mind. Some in audiobook format :). Thank you for the opportunity!

  13. I believe it was 75 last time I checked.

  14. I don’t keep track, but I read a lot of suspense and mystery. I just re-read the three books series of Women of Justice.

  15. I’ve read almost 50 books this year and a good many of them are romantic suspense. I like a lot of variety, so I’m guessing 15 or so. I would that that’s a good guesstimate!

  16. Romantic suspense are my go-to genre so a bunch. Like an earlier posted said, I’ve read over 100 books this year and many of them are romantic suspense–my fav!
