Did you know a brainstorming session with Rachel Hauck many, many years ago, birthed my character spotlights? My first character spotlight back in 2008 featured Rachel’s Elle Garvey from Love Starts With Elle. It’s only fitting that Rachel is back with Gus and Daffy, for what is my 646th character spotlight!
This spotlight is a lot of fun and all I can think about it is what magnificent hair any of Gus and Daffy’s future offspring are bound to have!
Rachel is kindly offering a digital copy of To Love a Prince to one of my readers. Enter via the Rafflecopter form below.
Enjoy meeting some royalty today…
Daffodil Caron is not a princess, even though she once dreamed of being one. After all, she grew up as a playmate to royal princes, running through the halls of Perrigwynn Palace in the North Sea’s Lauchtenland. But the day she stumbled upon a royal secret, everything changed.
Flash forward eighteen years, and Daffy’s living a sweet, non-royal life. A skilled art curator for the Royal Trust, she has friends, a flat in the heart of the capital city, and a handsome, successful boyfriend. The last person on her mind is Gus, the prince she once called her best mate.
HRH Prince Augustus is no longer “Prince Pudgy,” as caricatured by the press—he’s charming and gorgeous, possessing a world-famous smile. But after he’s jilted at the altar, then dumped by his second fianceé, the spare heir to Lauchtenland’s ancient House of Blue finds solace on a Florida beach.
A year as a regular bloke allows him to rethink his purpose. He’s half decided his calling is to pour pints at a tiki bar rather than serve his country and the Family.
But a wild Frisbee toss down the beach changes his destiny.
Despite his long hair and beard, Daffy recognizes her prince. She reminds Gus of his heritage and assures him that he’s needed in Lauchtenland.
When Daffy and Gus find themselves on assignment at Hadsby Castle in preparation for his brother’s wedding ball, their friendship blooms into affection.
Then secrets are exposed, and Gus must choose between his past hurts and his future hope. And Daffy must trust her heart to forever love a prince.
Prince Augustus Carwyn George
Physical Stats
Height: 6’1

Eye colour: Blue
Dress sense: At first, he’s a Florida boy living on the beach. Then he’s back to being a prince, dressed in Oxford shirts and khakis.
Resembles…
Strengths:
He’s really a devoted sort of chap. Has a lot of integrity. Tries to be self aware.
Vulnerabilities:
He believes in love so he’s eager to jump in with both feet. Well, until his heart gets broken. Twice!
Passions:
His country.
What book would he recommend?
Cyrano De Bergerac and Atlas Shrugged
Background to the story
I introduced Prince Gus as the jilted fiancé of Coral Winthrop, one of the stars of The Fifth Avenue Story Society. As I told her story, I became more curious about Gus. What happened to him after being left at the altar? I decided he needed his own happy ending.
I think Prince Harry played a part in my inspiration for Prince Gus.
Daffodil “Daffy” Caron
Height: 5’8
Hair colour & style: I can’t remember! Ha! But it’s long, curly, a bit wild.
Eye colour: Hazel?
Dress sense: She wears a uniform for her job at the Royal Trust but when she’s not in navy blue slacks and a blazer, she’s in jeans and a top, maybe with cool booties from Freebird by Steven. 😉
Resembles…
Strengths:
She’s very loyal and devoted. The every day is comforting to her.
Vulnerabilities:
She sometimes won’t stand up for herself.
Passions:
Prince Gus!
What book would she recommend?
Background to the story
Since I wanted to write Prince Gus’s story, I had to decide who he’d finally fall in love with and marry. After two very public and humiliating breakups, I decided he needed a best friend. Someone he could trust. Daffy came to mind. A childhood friend who was a commoner. The story kind of took off from there.
I think Duchess Kate played a large part in my inspiration for Daffy.
Thank you, Rachel, for this spotlight and every one you have inspired since Elle’s!

I dreamed of being a princess when I was a little girl, but as I’ve gotten older and realized the burden of being a royal I’m not sure I’d want to marry a prince anymore.
