There’s nothing quite as tantalising as having a Laura Frantz story in your hands, so her latest novel, A Bound Heart, is the subject of my First Line Friday this week, as always hosted by Hoarding Books. I’m very new to First Line Friday but I’m loving sharing the first line of some brilliantly written stories, hoping the one line is enticing enough for you to add the book to your TBR stack.
Laura Frantz is unequivocally one of the BEST historical romance writers I have read. Her attention to detail and historical accuracy is renowned and her characters, simply divine! I started A Bound Heart weeks ago, but had to put it down to focus on some work reading and I’ve been dying to get back to it. This weekend is looking good for spending some quality time with Lark and Magnus – don’t you just love their names?
For now, here’s the first enticing line. I can just imagine Lark, with her flowing red locks standing looking out across the see, can’t you?
I’d love you to share a first line from a book close to hand or link to your First Line Friday blog post!
Though Magnus MacLeish and Lark MacDougall grew up on the same castle grounds, Magnus is now laird of the great house and the Isle of Kerrera. Lark is but the keeper of his bees and the woman he is hoping will provide a tincture that might help his ailing wife conceive and bear him an heir. But when his wife dies suddenly, Magnus and Lark find themselves caught up in a whirlwind of accusations, expelled from their beloved island, and sold as indentured servants across the Atlantic. Yet even when all hope seems dashed against the rocky coastline of the Virginia colony, it may be that in this New World the two of them could make a new beginning–together.
Laura Frantz’s prose sparkles with authenticity and deep feeling as she digs into her own family history to share this breathless tale of love, exile, and courage in Colonial America.
Award-winning, bestselling author Laura Frantz is passionate about all things historical, particularly the 18th-century, and writes her manuscripts in longhand first. Her stories often incorporate Scottish themes that reflect her family heritage. She is a direct descendant of George Hume, Wedderburn Castle, Berwickshire, Scotland, who was exiled to the American colonies for his role in the Jacobite Rebellion of 1715, settled in Virginia, and is credited with teaching George Washington surveying in the years 1748-1750. Frantz lives and writes in a log cabin in the heart of Kentucky.

I loved this book! Laura Frantz is such a fantastic writer, and such a genuinely sweet lady. I was privileged to meet her and chat with her a couple of years ago at CFRR. She’s definitely a favorite of mine!

Dear Rel and bookish friends, Such a breath of fresh Friday air to come over here and see this! It always leaves me wishing we could gather and chat face to face 🙂 Very thankful Christian fiction has come so far in the 10 years I’ve been in publishing. When I looked at the line-up for historicals around New Years, especially, for 2019 I was truly amazed at the variety, depth, and quality out there. And don’t even get me started on rom-coms and non-fic and all the rest. Really thrilled to be here. Thank you all for your very gracious presence and words!

I completely agree about Laura’s books! I’m sharing the first line from Death in the Stocks by Georgette Heyer on my blog today. Here’s the second line:
“No lamp shone in the window but a full moon sailed in a sky the colour of sapphires, and lit the village with a pale light, as cold as the sheen on steel.”
Happy Friday!

I’ve still got last year’s release waiting for my on my Kindle… *sigh* I really need more reading time! But I do absolutely love her writing!
I’m featuring “The Seamstress” by Allison Pittman on my blog, but I’ve just started reading “Atoning for Ashes” by Kaitlin Covel, so I’ll share that first line here:

Take several days make together a no cost report.
It will drive more traffic to your websites from places, a person probably even don’t know they rests.

My first lines are from A Return of Devotion by Kristi Hunter
Marlborough, England. 1816
She should have been prepared. After all, she’d had two months to imagine this moment. In truth she’d done little else besides imagine all the possible scenarios, each one worse than the last.
But she hadn’t imagined this.

Haven’t read any by Laura Frantz yet. But I do love me some historical fiction! A recent well-loved read on my shelf is “A Name Unknown” by Roseanna M. White.
February 12, 2019 at 6:09 am
I haven’t read any books by this author or any books in this genre. I’m hoping to explore this genre more this year and give it a chance. This book looks like an excellent place to start. Thanks for the giveaway!
