Francine Rivers: This or That (with giveaway)

The Writer & her Book (15)

When you have been reading novels written by Christian authors for as long as I have – let’s just say for many, many decades – Francine Rivers is more than a notable Christian author. Many of her books have changed my perspective and strengthened my faith. I own all her titles, the original editions as well as more recent. I’m attaching a photo below of some of my Rivers collection, just for fun. Her Mark of the Lion series and The Atonement Child are my favourites amongst her wonderful back list of books. If you haven’t read her books, be sure to start making your way through them – you won’t be disappointed.  Be sure to enter the giveaway offered by the fabulous folk at Tyndale House.

I’m thrilled beyond measure that Francine has taken the time to share with us here today. This interview only confirms why I adore her…Maori tattoos…love it 😉

Over to you, Francine!

*****

Cake or Cookies

Cookies because there are so many varieties and they are small. A whole cake is too tempting. Especially if it’s chocolate. Too many cakes and I’d look like Jabba the Hutt.

Call or Text

I’d rather talk to someone in person than text, although I’m learning my children and grandchildren respond more quickly to a text. Even when everything I write seems to be misspelled.

Coke or Pepsi

Coke Classic because that’s what was “the thing” when I was growing up.

Dogs or Cats

Dogs! Dogs love you no matter what. They walk with you, sit at your feet, gaze at you with loving puppy-dog eyes. Cats have their own rules.

Eggs or Pancakes

I love eggs. I eat two every morning. I do like pancakes, especially Swedish pancakes drenched in butter, filled and rolled with lingonberries, and covered with clear Karo syrup. Sugar high!

Facebook or Twitter

Tyndale manages my Facebook page because I’m not a member. I write blogs which my daughter posts on my website (because I don’t know how). As to Twitter, I’m a novelist. I struggle writing anything shorter than a paragraph.

First person or Third person

Third person. First person is very difficult to do properly.

Instagram or Pinterest

Pinterest! My daughter signed me up and I have spent hours saving pictures on a variety of topics. I never knew there were so many beautiful pictures available with a simple click. It is a major time bandit.

Marvel or DC

Marvel. I’m a Trekkie. I’ve even been to a convention! Though I didn’t go in costume. If I did, I’d be a Klingon—K’Ehleyr.

Paperback or EBook

Paperback. I love the smell of a printed page and the feel of a book in my hand. I like turning the pages. I don’t feel like I’ve read a book on a Kindle.

Rel: Just part of my Francine Rivers’ collection – gotta love some of those older covers 🙂

Summer or Winter

Summer and working in the garden. Winter finds me living in layers and heavy socks, sitting in front of a fireplace or space heater—and still shivering. And I’m a Californian!

Sweet or Spicy

Sweet. I believe in eating dessert first because I never have room to eat it at the end of a meal. I can enjoy dessert and take my meal home in a doggie bag.

Tattoos or Piercings

Tattoos. Maori style. On men.

Tea or Coffee

Coffee! Black, half caff, no cream or sugar, at least a pot a day.

Thornton or Darcy

Mister Darcy.

Yoga Pants or Jeans

Jeans, by all means. I’ve been living in them for decades.

Zoo or Aquarium

The Monterey Bay Aquarium. I could spend hours there. And have.

The Masterpiece

Fast Facts (9)

The Masterpiece

New York Times bestselling author Francine Rivers returns to her romance roots with this unexpected and redemptive love story, a probing tale that reminds us that mercy can shape even the most broken among us into an imperfect yet stunning masterpiece.

A successful LA artist, Roman Velasco appears to have everything he could possibly want-money, women, fame. Only Grace Moore, his reluctant, newly hired personal assistant, knows how little he truly has. The demons of Roman’s past seem to echo through the halls of his empty mansion and out across his breathtaking Topanga Canyon view. But Grace doesn’t know how her boss secretly wrestles with those demons: by tagging buildings as the Bird, a notorious but unidentified graffiti artist – an alter ego that could destroy his career and land him in prison.

Like Roman, Grace is wrestling with ghosts and secrets of her own. After a disastrous marriage threw her life completely off course, she vowed never to let love steal her dreams again. But as she gets to know the enigmatic man behind the reputation, it’s as if the jagged pieces of both of their pasts slowly begin to fit together … until something so unexpected happens that it changes the course of their relationship – and both their lives – forever.

  17. I love the new questions you’re asking the authors! Darcy vs. Thorton – now we’re getting into the REAL issues! HAHA!!!

My favorite books of River’s so far has been The Last Sin Eater, (what an extremely unique story!) and last year I enjoyed Her Mother’s Hope. As hard as it was to read (It’s hard to read about people not getting along – especially a mother/daughter relationship), it was very well done! All the characters were so detailed and well written, one would have thought it was a biography! And since the book was so large and long, by the end I had gained an attatchment to them!

  18. I have loved all the books she has written that I have read. A friend goes to a second had book store and picks them up. She reads them and passes them down to me. And I pass it on when I am finished. This is how I came to know about Francine Rivers. I love this interview. Will have to share with my friend. I so agree with so many of her options. Thanks for the great review and the post. Oh, and the give a way. I would love to read this.

  24. My favorite book of hers was, “Bridge to Haven”. It was given to the church library in my honor. I volunteer in the library and have for almost 40 years.
