Why Once Upon a Summer?

by Lisa T. Bergren

This is a particularly good question for me. Because you know what my favorite season of the year really is? FALL. I love the crisp weather, the glorious, autumnal colors of gold and russet, a cozy fire in the fireplace…But growing up, I LIVED for summers. Every summer, as soon as school got out (and a few times, even a few days early!), my family packed up and left Southern California for our lake cabin in Northwest Montana. Montana was where most of my extended family lived, and where a number more came to visit every year.

It seemed like all year I would stare out the window and dream of the following summer. I’d think of long days on the dock, waterskiing or inner-tubing, swimming and diving and floating. Long walks with the family and hikes in the mountains. Huge family dinners that would take three tables to seat all of us. Fishing trips and skipping rocks…

Later, there were summer romances, which made me all the more day-dreamy about the next. One summer I brought my first boyfriend. The next I was healing from heartbreak. Years later, my future-husband and I spent ten magical days on the lake together, falling deeper and deeper in love with each passing day.

So while fall is my favorite, SUMMER will forever represent freedom, time, new experiences, family connection and potential joy. Whether that summer experience is in Montana—or in future locations for my Once Upon a Summer Series—I think it’s the perfect time of year to fall in love. (But then, is there ever a bad time of year to fall in love??)

The Book

One Upon A Montana Summer

Love is Never Best Played Out on TV…

Adalyn Stalling’s clients convinced her to be a contestant on their reality TV show, The One. Hundreds of thousands of viewers tune in each week to watch a group of bachelorettes try to win one bachelor’s heart, and then during the next season, watch bachelors do the same.

Adi appeared on the show twice-once as a potential love-match for the bachelor, once as the bachelorette. As a marketing executive for the firm who handles the show, Adi initially became a part of the cast in order to learn more from the “inside.” But as much as she wanted to stay professionally removed, she ended up giving her heart to both Adam and Connor.

Both times, the men broke it off.

Now America’s most famous “loser at love,” Adalyn is trying to pick up the pieces of her life. Given the media frenzy and the paparazzi that chase her, she’s finding it difficult. And just as she learns she may have picked up a stalker, her childhood friend, Chase Rollins, tracks her down at last. He informs her that her beloved grandfather is ailing and needs her help, in more ways than one.

So begins an epic summer in which Adalyn needs to decide where she belongs, what she is supposed to do, and with whom she might find true love at last. All Once Upon a Montana Summer…

  1. Autumn is also my favorite. Here in North Alabama, I live surrounded by a National Forest and the colors are amazing in Autumn. My family never sold any land to the national forest service so this was were I grew up in a very small community in the foothills of the Appalachians and it’s seems I wait for Autumn to return each year though winter is excellent for hiking and we usually never get really cold.

    • Hi Myra, I’m Myra too and I live in North Alabama too. What are the odds of that with our unusual name? Good luck with the contest. Nice to “meet” you!

  2. Thank you for being part of the MINI MONTANA SCAVENGER HUNT for “ONCE UPON A MONTANA SUMMER”.
I would love the opportunity to read this wonderful sounding book.

My favorite season is spring. To me it’s a time to start fresh, a rebirth of nature, a time to come alive after months of brown and dreary weather. After being cooped up inside the weather breaks so that we can get outside without being weighed down by coats, boots and gloves for walks, sitting on the porch or taking a drive to a far off destination without worrying if the weather is going to change with dropping temperatures and slick roads. Love seeing the trees green out and the flowers popping up with their colorful blooms. Fortunate enough not to be bothered with hay fever so I love everything about spring!

  3. I’m starting to enjoy summer more now that I’m getting older, though winter has always been my favorite season.

  4. Spring is my favorite season. It’s full of anticipation of things coming back to life after a cold, cooped-up winter time. Not too hot, not too cold 🙂

  5. I think spring and summer both are my favorite times of the year, especially since we can enjoy more songbirds and wildlife. Thanks for the opportunity to enter a giveaway! Would especially like to win the three print books! Take care now and God bless! Lual

  6. I love the spring because everything is so green!

  7. I love fall, but I also love spring and seeing the plants green up and the flowers coming up from the ground again.

Lisa’s book sounds wonderful. It’s been fun learning more about her and her book.

  8. Spring is my favourite season because everything becomes alive after a long, cold, dormant winter. The smell of dirt, mowed grass, and rain. It also means I have all of summer to look forward to!

  9. Summer is my favorite season. I’m out of school for 2 months, so that’s probably WHY, but I also love the long days. We spend it outdoors mostly, camping or gardening. Reading late into the night is also a bonus.

  10. Spring is my favorite because everything is new. There is so much life and you cannot help but smile and be encouraged by life in general.

  11. Summer is my favorite season. I love the warm weather and getting to sleep in and having my kids home with me. And I love to sit out on my back porch swing in the warm weather and read a good book! Fall is my second favorite. I love the colors, cooler weather and the pumpkin patch. 🙂

  12. Fall is my favorite season because that was the season when I first got to go to the US. Such a beautiful experience 🙂

  13. I think that fall is my favorite season. The leaves are falling. The temperatures are cooling. Thanksgiving.

  14. I love summer because of the hot weather and the freedom of doing so many outside activities–gardening, sunbathing, fairs, farmers markets, etc.

  15. I love FALL too! The book sounds wonderful!

  16. Summer is my favorite season because of the warmth and plentiful sunshine.

  17. Spring everthing fresh and new.

  18. Fall is my favorite. I love the colors of the leaves and the temperature is perfect.

  19. My favorite season is SUMMER!! I love sunshine, lazy warm summer days, going to the beach, kayaking, summer flowers…sigh! Thanks for the chance to win a copy of one of Lisa’s latest Montana series novels! They sound AWESOME!!!
