The Writer & her Book (54)

It’s fun to have Pam Hillman back at Relz Reviewz sharing about her favourite things! Pam writes fascinating historical romance novels and her latest release is the second in her Natchez Trace series, this time featuring another O’Shea brother, Quinn, and the three Irish sisters that stumble into his care. Over to you, Pam…

******

Cake or Cookies

Cake. Strawberry. Homemade, especially my mother-in-law’s fresh strawberry cake, made ahead of time and chilled for a couple of days. It’s so good that both of my sons requested it for their groom’s table at their weddings. Nothing left but crumbs both times.

Call or Text

Text. Hands down. Text me and I can find (or meditate on) the answer and get back with you. Rarely is it a good time to call me.

Coke or Pepsi

Coke if I’m drinking a Coke. But Pepsi “Brand” if I’m drinking Diet Mountain Dew. Unfortunately, I try to avoid soft drinks these days, but Diet MD calls my name often. It’s hard to resist that siren call. Sigh.

Dogs or Cats

Both. As a kid and teen, I was more a cat lover, but in the last few years, we haven’t had a cat as our dog doesn’t like cats, but she’s a good guard dog, so it’s a trade off. But puppies and kittens? I’m so there on either of those. Love a cuddly puppy or kitten.

Eggs or Pancakes

Oh, you’re hitting me hard! I eat a lot of eggs because of the protein and I’m careful of too many carbs, but pancakes, butter, and syrup? Oh, my! Occasionally, I cannot resist! If someone said I could only have eggs or pancakes for the rest of my life, I’d have to choose eggs, but I wouldn’t be happy to never have pancakes again. Isn’t it wonderful that most of us don’t have to make that choice?

Facebook or Twitter

Facebook because that’s where my friends and family hang out. I enjoy seeing pictures and updates from those I care about.

First person or Third person

Third person. I love getting into the heads of more than one character, and knowing something the other characters don’t.

Instagram or Pinterest

I’m learning to love Instagram. I’ve had an Instagram account for a while, but have just recently started posting and checking it. Why? Something called Bookstagram caught my attention. Instagrammers take the most ADORABLE photos with books (my books!!!) with these cute props, then give the book away. Why have I not known about this #Bookstagram thing until now?

Paperback or EBook

Dare I say both? Honestly, I’m probably the most wishy-washy author you’ve ever hosted. Paperback because I spend all my waking hours in front of a screen, but eBook for the ease of taking thousands of books with me on a road trip.

Rel: Not wishy-washy! Or if you are, I am too on this one 🙂

Summer or Winter

Winter. I live in Mississippi where the humidity can be 99% on a day that’s 98. “Winter” is relative here. We’ve ridden 4-wheelers (aka ATVs) at Thanksgiving and Christmas in t-shirts and jeans. But (do I sense a pattern here?) summer does have its perks. lol

Sweet or Spicy

Seriously? Rel, you’re killing me. Sweet, then, if I have to choose. I can’t handle too much spice, not hot and spicy, anyway.

Tattoos or Piercings

Neither. Neither. Neither. I can’t imagine willingly letting someone stick a needle in me. So, since I can’t abide either of these, this gives me leave to choose two of the others.

Tea or Coffee

Finally! Coffee. I love my Keurig that allows me to make one cup at a time. I mostly have 1 cup a day, but in winter, have two. Occasionally, three. I add all kinds of yummy stuff to my coffee. Now, I’m craving a cup!

Thornton or Darcy

Darcy.

Yoga Pants or Jeans

Neither. I’m a skirt-wearing girl. I wonder if I could get a yoga skirt. Well, whaddya know. They do make yoga skirts. And jean skirts, so there ya go. A yoga skirt would be awful comfy.

Rel: Thanks for the yoga skirt research, Pam 😉

Zoo or Aquarium

Zoo. It’s easier to linger at each stop at a zoo, imo. Love the babies.

Thanks Pam!

Fast Facts (22)

The Road to Magnolia Glen

1792, Natchez Trace, MS

Bitter since his eldest brother abandoned their family in Ireland, Quinn O’Shea travels to Natchez, Mississippi, ready to shuck the weight of his duty and set off on an adventure of his own. It’s time Connor, as head of the family, took responsibility for their younger siblings. While aboard ship, a run-in with three Irish sisters lands Quinn in the role of reluctant savior. Though it may delay his plans, he cannot abandon the Young sisters, especially the tenacious yet kind Kiera.

Upon arriving in the colonies, Kiera Young prepares to meet her intended and begin her new life. But she soon discovers the marriage her brother-in-law arranged was never meant to be, and a far more sinister deal was negotiated for her and her sisters.

Quinn offers to escort his charges safely to Breeze Hill Plantation and his brother’s care, fully intending to seek his freedom elsewhere. But the longer he remains, the greater his feelings toward Kiera grow and the more he comes to realize true freedom might be found in sacrifice.

CBA Bestselling author PAM HILLMAN was born and raised on a farm in Mississippi and spent her teenage years on the seat of a tractor. 31 Responses to Pam Hillman: This or That (with giveaway)

  1. In the hot, humid Kansas summers, I prefer winter. If we are having a very cold, snowy winter, I prefer summer! Spring and fall are really better weather, but then allergies are worse. I have to be content whatever the season. How’s that for wishy-washy?

  2. Hey Del and Pam! Being a Memphian, I should probably agree with Pam about Winter. But, I’m so cold natured, I’m gonna go with Summer. However, this summer may beat record highs. I am super excited about your new book Pam! I loved the first one!!

  3. I’ve always enjoyed winter but my children definitely love summer.

  4. Winter for the weather. It is very hot where I live in the summer. The LOW is typically 75 degrees all summer and that will be around 4:00 a.m. This year we are already hitting 100 degrees which isn’t a good indicator of what’s to come in July and August. Am I whining? 🙂

I enjoyed the first book in this series and look forward to The Road to Magnolia Glen.

  5. Winters in Pennsylvania can be brutal. Summers can be hot and sticky but I’ll take them over the bitter cold and snow. Autumn and Spring are my favorite seasons. 🙂

  6. I prefer the coolness of winter but the snow and ice you can have. I enjoy my walk too much.

  7. I prefer summer. Our winters are full of snow and freezing cold (like -35 F cold) so I long for the heat of summer to warm me up again. Plus, who likes wearing skirts in that kind of cold? If you get a flat tire or car trouble while wearing a skirt, you’d freeze in no time!

  8. I prefer winter because we don’t really have much of a winter here in Texas. In the summers late July and August are super hot, usually well over 100. That’s already happened too early this year so I’m afraid August is going to be unbearable. Anything over 100 is tough to deal with. I enjoyed Pam’s first book in this series, so I’m excited to read the second one.

  9. I love winter!

  10. I guess winter, but favorite season would be fall, followed by spring.

  11. I love both seasons. Summer because you can do so many things and I love the green trees and flowers, Winter because I love snow and bundling up in front of a cozy fire!

  12. Summer,I love planting flowers,And seeing everything green and pretty. Thanks for the giveaway and interview. Would love to win a copy of this book.

  13. Definitely summer!

  14. Danielle Hammelef

I’m a summer person. I dislike the cold very much. Plus I love flowers and green everywhere.

  15. I like Fall the most, but out of summer and winter I will take summer. I can wear flip-flops and if I am hot I can always go inside and turn on the a/c. Plus, I LOVE the sound of water on beaches.

  16. Summer or winter? How can I choose? I actually prefer spring and fall, because I have a faulty internal thermostat and don’t like it too hot or too cold.

  17. I don’t like heat very much, so I guess that I’d choose winter. Really, though, I love autumn the most.

  18. Definitely summer! Living in Minnesota we get an extra dose of winter! (We had 15 inches of snow in April!). Thanks so much for the chance to win!

  19. Winter!! I love being cozy!

  20. I prefer spring and summer.

  21. I am thankful for all four seasons but summer gets preference over winter! Thanks for this giveaway.

  22. I really enjoy summer, getting out to walk in the parks and seeing and hearing more songbirds; however, I think I read more in the winter, although I still try to keep up with my reading favorite books every day! Thanks for the opportunity to enter a giveaway! Would love to win a print book. God bless. Lual Krautter

  23. I like both winter and summer, but spring and fall are my favorites. Winter can sometimes last too long in the Midwest and really makes me look forward to summer. This year we had no spring, we went from winter straight to the hot weather of summer.

  24. I prefer summer! I’m a teacher and have summer break with my children. It’s wonderful!

  25. Brittaney Borman

I hate to be cold. Give me a Texas summer any day. I’d much rather be hot.

  26. I prefer winter, particularly as this year we are unseasonably warm and already hitting 100 degrees. Natchez is such a beautiful, historic town to visit, and we also visited along the Trace.

  27. I’m a native Floridian so you might say that I prefer summer.
Our winters, if you can call them that, do not last long.
Thanks for entering me in your giveaway.

  28. Texas Summers are so hot! We have mild Winters.

    Wonderful interview with Pam!

  29. Loving all these diverse responses debating the merits of Summer vs. Winter. Now that I think about it, I wonder if I would have said the opposite if Rel had asked me that same question in the winter time! Right now it’s mega hot here and the humidity sucks the life right out of you, so Winter sounded pretty good. 🙂

Thank you all for stopping by, and I’m so glad that you’re all so excited about reading The Road to Magnolia Glen. I hope you enjoy Quinn & Kiera’s story as much as I enjoyed writing it.

And, Rel, thank you so much for having me. Your website — and the way you laid out this piece — is gorgeous!

  30. I’m 100 % a summer girl 🙂 I’m so looking forward to this next book, The Road to Magnolia Glen, by Pam Hillman! Woo Hoo!! Thanks for the chance to win a copy!!!
