The Begotten by Lisa T. Bergren

Synopsis:~

Their coming was foretold for centuries…and their gathering threatens to change everything.

A portion of an ancient, beautifully illuminated letter—a letter believed to have been written by Saint Paul—has surfaced. The letter speaks of men and women with profound spiritual gifts and the illuminations bear a striking resemblance to those drawing together in medieval Italy.

Their gathering will strike fear in the heart of a Church dedicated to maintaining their considerable power. But there is another enemy on the hunt for them and he is darker still…

My take:~

Lisa T. Bergren’s The Gifted is a series not to be missed. First published over ten years ago, and now being re-released over the coming months, they are that rare breed of stories that are ageless.

The Begotten – available now – was engaging from the beginning, but as the action and suspense started to build I was totally committed to this intriguing tale of faith, rich in history with mesmerising characterisation.

Lisa Tawn Bergren’s extensive research is obvious with fascinating detail of the political and spiritual climate of Italy in the 1300s. Her pacing of the suspense and adventure is perfectly timed for a downright captivating and challenging read. Bergren’s villain is just as well drawn as the members of the Gifted, each one captivating me with their unusual abilities, unique personalities, and diverse faith journeys. Amidst the intrigue, whispers of romance and swordplay, is a message of faith about the importance of God’s timing in our lives that endures. Brimming with all the elements of an epic thriller, The Begotten holds appeal for both men and women, and I can’t recommend it highly enough!

With thanks to the publisher for my review copy. All opinions remain my own.
