The Enclave by Karen Hancock

Synopsis:~

When Lacey McHenry accepts a prestigious research fellowship at the world-renowned Kendell-Jakes Longevity Institute, she sees it as a new start on life. But a disturbing late-night encounter with an intruder leads to an unexpected cover-up by Institute authorities, and she soon realizes there’s more going on than she ever imagined.

She finds a supporter in genetics researcher Cameron Reinhardt. However, Reinhardt is a favorite of the Institute’s director, and she can’t help wondering if he, too, is in on the cover-up. The brilliant but absentminded researcher turns out to have his own secrets, some of them dark and deadly.

My take:~

Karen Hancock knows how to weave a fast paced, mind boggling story as confirmed by her latest effort The Enclave. Dual story threads require concentration as do the memorable twists and turns that create intrigue and danger as science fiction, questionable medical advancements and an antagonist with a God complex intersect. I enjoyed the character development of Lacey and Cam, especially the transformation Cam undergoes in Lacey’s estimation as she learns more of his history, faith and integrity. Certain key elements of the story remained unexplained, yet Karen’s complex storytelling abilities are second to none and she held my rapt attention from beginning to end. Karen’s writing fills a void in Christian literature with vivid characters and creatively imagined worlds, that one day may not be too far from the truth.
