Synopsis:~
Jake Silver may not be able to put the memories of his time as a sniper and Navy SEAL behind him, but at least he can put his skills to use as a part of the Jones Inc. rescue team. Saving the life of pediatric heart surgeon Dr. Aria Sinclair on Denali helped too. Now he can’t get her out of his head, and when he hears she is in the path of a hurricane down in Key West he can’t help but jump on a plane to rescue her.
Aria has dedicated her life to helping children born with defective hearts. After all, she was one of those children. Now driven to succeed, she lives a lonely, stressful life. One she would have lost on Denali if it hadn’t been for Jake. Jake is exciting and handsome, but he’s also dangerous, and she’s already lost one person she loves. She can’t bear it again.
It’s not until she finds herself trapped in the middle of a category 4 hurricane that she can admit she needs Jake desperately. With their very survival in the balance, can they hope for a second chance at life . . . and love?
Necee’s take:~
“I know. You can’t help but be a hero.”
Buckle up, Buttercup…Susan May Warren could coin the term adventure. Whew! From the first to the last page she wrings out every moment into a roller coaster ride of action, adventure, and romantic suspense. She is my go to for a good book, and this one seriously was so full of action I had to stop and take multiple breaks! In The Heart of A Hero, she takes us around the world, but the main story takes place during a hurricane in the Florida Keys. Thankfully, our hero shows up in the nick of time…
“Because the man just stood there like some kind of mythical hero, a knight fighting fire-breathing dragons and the hounds of the underworld. His chest rose and fell, his blue eyes fierce in hers, pinning her to the spot.”
Once a SEAL and always a rescuer at heart, we meet Jake’s family and see a deeper level as to who he is. Then he goes to rescue Aria in the midst of a storm, whether she wants his help or not. I love how real Warren is about human behavior in the midst of danger with this couple. Their relationship runs hot and cold, however, this couple has sparks that fly off the page.
Another thing I enjoyed is how Warren gives us a glimpse of characters from prior series. It just makes me want to go back and start her books all over again. Ham is also on the search for the truth regarding his wife’s death and the daughter left in his care. This adds another level of mystery I can’t wait to see unfold in the future.
Seriously, this book blew me away in more ways than one. The action, the adventure, the multilayered storyline, and the romance is well, just intense. Don’t miss it! All the feels with laugh out loud one liners and the banter between Jake and Aria had me cracking up. The spiritual aspect is also beautiful with a deeper level of meaning in the midst of hurricane weather…
“Lord, your Word says that when we pass through the waters, you will be with us. That they will not sweep over us. And it’s true.”
As this couple survives one calamity after another, they must overcome their weaknesses and fears. They learn to depend on each other more as they see a deeper message behind it all…that we are forgiven, loved, and that God wants us to live our lives to the fullest. This series is for anyone who loves mystery, adventure, romance and a deeper meaning behind it all.
I received a copy of the book through NetGalley by the publisher. All opinions have been given honestly.

I’ve seen so many great reviews for this book! I have to read book series in order, so it sounds like I better get book 1 and get started so I can read this one next!

I haven’t read her books yet so I can’t pick a hero.

I’ve not yet met all her heroes. Since I’ve requested SMW books at my local library, the staff is drooling over her covers.

It’s been a very long time since I’ve read one of her novels but I’ll be a cover snob and choose Knox. Doesn’t he just look like the perfect hero?
