Today you are in for a treat! My fabulous friend and in-house reviewer, Necee Lomelino, is reviewing the competely Kaely Quinn Profiler trilogy from Nancy Mehl. She procured her own copies of the first two novels in order to read the final book, Dead End, provided by Bethany House Publishers for review, so she could take in all the nuances and backstory and share her thoughts with you. That’s a passionate reader and reviewer and I’m honoured to have her on my team here at Relz Reviewz.
We are delighted to be giving away a copy of Dead End, thanks to BHP, via the Rafflecopter from below.
Enjoy this close look at this romantic suspense trilogy!
Synopsis:~
Kaely Quinn’s talents as an FBI behavior analyst are impossible to ignore, no matter how unorthodox her methods. But when a reporter outs her as the daughter of an infamous serial killer, she’s demoted to field agent and transferred to St. Louis.
When the same reporter who ruined her career claims to have received an anonymous poem predicting a string of murders, ending with Kaely’s, the reporter’s ulterior motives bring his claim into question. But when a body is found that fits the poem’s predictions, the threat is undeniable, and the FBI sends Special Agent Noah Hunter to St. Louis.
Initially resentful of the assignment, Noah is surprised at how quickly his respect for Kaely grows, despite her oddities. But with a brazen serial killer who breaks all the normal patterns on the loose, Noah and Kaely are tested to their limits to catch the murderer before anyone else–including Kaely herself–is killed.
Necee’s take:~
“It was time. Let the mind games begin.”
Wow…talk about an intense, suspenseful read! This riveting crime thriller read like a season of Criminal Minds following a serial killer. What I loved about it was how well the descriptions were handled, nothing was over the top and yet it still made for a thriller ever read. The dynamics of Kaely Quinn and the team that supports her was engaging.
“I believe it’s our job to use all the weapons in our arsenal to catch the monsters, Agent Hunter. And that’s what I do. I chase monsters.“
Kaely is truly gifted in being able to recreate seeing into the minds of criminals. After growing up with a serial killer for a father, she uses her talents for good to take monsters off the streets. As FBI Special Agent Noah Hunter is tasked to work with her, it is interesting to see his perspective and how their working relationship grows.
Another area I loved was the spiritual aspect of this book.
“Those who know God should be the ones to confront the darkness, to chase evil. We have the weapons. Those who don’t know Him have only themselves. And trust me, it’s not enough. Not if you want to make it out in one piece.”
A phenomenal read for anyone who loves criminal drama, shows like Criminal Minds, and what it’s like as a daughter of a serial killer.
This is my personal copy. My review is my own.

Synopsis:~
When FBI profiler Kaely Quinn’s mother is diagnosed with cancer, Kaely takes time off work to go to Dark Water, Nebraska, to help her brother care for their mother. Upon her arrival, she learns of a series of fires in the small town, attributed by the fire chief to misuse of space heaters in the frigid winter. But Kaely is skeptical, and a search for a pattern in the locations of the fires bolsters her suspicions.
After yet another blaze devastates a local family, Kaely is certain a serial arsonist is on the loose. Calling upon her partner from St. Louis, Noah Hunter, and her brother’s firefighter neighbor who backs Kaely’s suspicions, Kaely and her team begin an investigation that swiftly leads them down a twisted path. When the truth is finally revealed, Kaely finds herself confronting a madman who is determined his last heinous act will be her death.
Necee’s take:~
“Kaely could draw from the kindness, gentleness, and self-control God had put inside of her—the fruit of the Spirit. Even when she didn’t really feel like it, she knew those gifts were there for her.”
Though Fire Storm was a good read, it wasn’t my favorite out of the series. However, there were so many great moments. Relationship struggles and working through hurts and unforgiveness are key elements as Kaely goes to help her brother with their mom’s recovery. As if that isn’t stressful enough, she is pulled into the case of a serial arsonist, with a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming. A riveting read with a thread of forgiveness and seeking God’s grace in healing with family. I think the struggle with Noah, her brother and mother were necessary, but hard at times. I love that Mehl made those struggles so realistic.
Watching Noah and Kaely walk through their relationship with God and each other was heartwarming. However, the creepy factor does go up in this book and made me a little worried where Mehl was taking Kaely. I’m hoping the third book answers a lot of questions I have right now! A riveting, suspenseful read.

Synopsis:~
When a body is discovered in a field in Iowa, the police uncover fourteen additional corpses ranging from 20 years old to recent. The remains point to a serial killer with an MO the authorities have seen before–Ed Oliphant, a man who has been in prison for over 20 years . . . and is Special Agent Kaely Quinn’s father. After several failed interview attempts to discover if Ed has been training someone to be a copycat killer, the police turn to Kaely in St. Louis.
Kaely promised herself she would never step foot in her hometown or set eyes on her father again. She’s always refused to confront her past, but if she wants to prevent any more deaths, she must come face-to-face with the man she’s hated for years.
As more bodies are discovered, Kaely races against time and her own personal turmoil to uncover the killer. Will this most personal case yet cost Kaely her identity and perhaps even her life?
“Special Agent Quinn, we truly believe you may be the only person in the world who can stop these murders.”
Wow, this third installment of Kaely Quinn Profiler is a killer read and may take all of Kaely before it’s through. A father imprisoned as a serial killer, a daughter who wants to right all his wrongs, a new serial killer on the prowl. Kaely Quinn is in the race of her life. Her partner, Noah, is worried she’s losing her mind and is doing everything in his power to keep her safe. There are so many twists to the story that the end was a mind game with a thrilling conclusion.
“Thank you, God, that you have not given Kaely a spirit of fear . . .” He halted a moment, obviously trying to remember the rest. “But of power and of love and of a sound mind,”
This is one of my favorite verses and was a key component of this series. Overcoming fear in the midst of life is difficult for most of us, but even harder to overcome in Noah and Kaely’s line of work. They both have pasts that make trusting God fully more difficult. Mehl did an amazing job shining light in the midst of evil and reminding us trusting that still small voice can lead to a deeper walk with God.
“We’re in a battle, Noah,” she’d said. “Good versus evil. Denying evil exists won’t make it go away.”
There is a deeper layer to this message that was so well written and is a good reminder.
As they both work together to find out who the copycat serial killer is, they are in a race to stop the next murder. Kaely’s struggles with seeing her father again and these scenes were very tough and really gave insight into how forgiveness is a battle. Noah works on building their communication and learning to let go of his fears. I loved how much they shored each other up. The connection between them deepens as they learn to trust one another and God more. Kaely’s influence on others, even while overcoming her past make her a great witness to God’s testimony in her life. I found this entire series riveting and the conclusion was beautifully written.
I recommend reading this series in order. Though Mind Games (book one) could be read as a standalone, Fire Storm really builds on her past and brings family into the picture. There were spiritual issues in Book Two that had me questioning where Mehl was going with Kaely’s character, but the third book shined with God’s truth. Dead End really tied the whole series together and brought many answers to questions from the other books. Inspiring, thrilling, and edge of your seat suspense, I highly recommend this series.
I received a copy of this book by the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions given are my own and given honestly.

I like the cover of Fire Storm the best, but Mind Games has been my favorite thus far in the series, but this last book may change my mind.

Hope you enjoy the last one, Amy. Mehl really tied it altogether in Dead End, but I agree that Mind Games was a favorite, too!

I like the Fire storm cover the best. I think it’s the interesting texture and feel and the attractive colors. It is also the ONLY book in the series that I have a physical copy of, so that may the reason. Nancy Mehl outdid herself withnthis series but I hope she can bring Kaely Quinn back at some point. I’d love to read more about her adventures!

Firestorm is my favorite because of the colors. It was less scary than the other two.
May 25, 2020 at 8:26 am
Sonnetta, I found it interesting that you found the other two books less scary. Firestorm totally had the creepy factor for me, but I hung in there and saw where the story was going. So glad she answered some of those questions in Dead End. Such a great series!
