Synopsis:~
Recently widowed, Rivkah refuses to submit to the Torah law compelling her to marry her husband’s brother and instead flees Kedesh, hoping to use her talents as a scribe to support herself. Without the protections of her father, Kedesh’s head priest, and the safety of the city of refuge, Rivkah soon discovers that the cost of recklessness is her own freedom.
Malakhi has secretly loved Rivkah for years, but he never imagined his older brother’s death would mean wedding her himself. After her disappearance, he throws himself into the ongoing fight against the Canaanites instead of dwelling on all he has lost. But with impending war looming over Israel, Rivkah’s father comes to Malakhi with an impossible request.
As the enemies that Rivkah and Malakhi face from without and within Israel grow more threatening each day, is it too late for the restoration their wounded souls seek?
My take:~
Connilyn Cossette’s ability to weave Biblical history and evocative storytelling with characters that you can connect with despite their era in time, makes for a beautiful and immersive reading experience. From Rivkah and Malakhi’s early years tormenting and berating each other, to the bloom of love that remains one-sided, then stepping with them into adulthood and grieving some disastrous choices, this story is enthralling and stamps Connilyn as a must read author for those of us who love to journey through ancient times. Human nature has not changed and that makes the suffering, shame, desire, and devotion experienced by this pair so real and raw. My only quibble would be some modern dialogue that popped up – albeit rarely – but that did not stem my enjoyment or my respect of Connilyn’s talent, and her dedication to her craft. I highly recommend Until the Mountains Fall and will eagerly away Tirzah’s story in Like Flames in the Night.
With thanks to the publisher for my review copy. I provide Author Support Services to the author but my opinions remain my own.

I haven’t read any Biblical fiction before, and this story sounds amazing!

I am soooooooo excited and counting down the days to the release of “Until the Mountains Fall” – – I have had it on pre-order since the door opened to do so. If you have never read a Connilyn Cossette story then buckle up and get ready for the Biblical ride of your life. Her research and story telling skill is right up there with Francine Rivers – and to align any other story telling ability to “The Mark of the Lion” is saying a lot. . . . . Let me see . . . 10 days and counting . . . this is like sitting by the chimney waiting for Santa to drop down – – – oh hurry, hurry, hurry!!!!

Shelter of the Most High is my current biblical fiction book I’m reading. When I saw it on my way out of the library I literally did a double take and turned around to pick it up off the display shelf. When the librarian said it was the second of a series I just HAD to get the first one! As I eagerly wait for the release of book 3, I’ll be catching up on the first series. Connilyn Cossette is an amazing writer! Her books have made me cry, laugh, and praise God for His grace and mercy. I am thankful for these books and the joy they have brought to my life.

The most recent Biblical fiction novel I read was Of Fire and Lions by Mesu Andrews. Books like this bring Bible stories to vivid life for me. I also have greatly enjoyed Tessa Afshar’s books. In the Field of Grace and Pearl in the Sand were both amazing!
