Synopsis:~
At the advice of her therapist, homicide survivor Harper Reynolds has traded her job as a crime scene photographer for a more peaceful life taking photographs of the natural world. But her hopes for a life surrounded by the serenity of the outdoors are dashed when she inadvertently captures a murder being committed in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She flees the scene in fear–and loses the camera.
Former Green Beret Heath McKade is a reserve deputy in an understaffed county who has been called in to protect Harper, a childhood friend he is surprised to see back in the area. When Harper learns that the sheriff’s department can’t find any evidence of the murder she witnessed, she is determined to do what she can to see that justice is done. What neither Harper nor Heath could know is how many explosive secrets from the past will be exposed–or how deeply they will fall for each other.
In this suspenseful page-turner, bestselling author Elizabeth Goddard keeps you on the edge of your seat as you discover that uncommon justice lies just on the other side of fear.
Necee’s Take:~
Just the first chapter grabbed me and didn’t let go…
“Harper Reynolds inched forward, hoping she hadn’t made a mistake in coming there. After she positioned her camera on the tripod, she zoomed in closer with her long telephoto lens.”
She just wanted a peaceful, serene environment to take pictures of nature and then…
“She focused her camera on the killer, taking a kill shot of her own.”
Wow… What an opening! A bear, a killer, and a witness…made for a great mystery. Returning to her hometown was never so dangerous! As Harper tries to escape from the killer she is injured. In steps her former childhood friend, Heath McKade. As a former Green Beret, now he is a volunteer deputy who tries to keep her safe and yet at arms length. They both struggle with past issues of hurt and trust. Can they overcome both before the killer finds them? Can they trust God enough to draw them together? The faith element was beautifully written into the story. As they grow in their faith, they worry what will happen next. A killer is hiding in their community and only they know the answers. As old secrets are revealed and bigger issues come out in the open, an ending with a twist will leave you stunned!
Though the characters struggles were real, I did get frustrated at times at how much they focused on the past. I loved when they finally stepped into the present and allowed healing. It reminds us of how easily we get stuck in the past instead of focusing on all God has for us.
Mystery, suspense, and fans of romantic adventure with a faith element will love this book. I can’t wait for the next release in the series.
I was given a complementary copy of this book by the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.
