Bookish Question of the Week

QuoftheweekSo, ย I’m 10 days and counting wrestling a nasty virus and cough into submission…haven’t quite got there yet so the old brain is a little dodgy at the moment!

That means short and sweet today, so…

What book have you read this year that you could not put down, and why?

  1. Oh no honey! I hope you’re better soon.

    Book question: Wedding Game

  2. Praying for your speedy (although delayed) recovery. The book I couldn’t put down happened just Saturday night/Sunday morning. It’s a Love Inspired book “At His Command” written by Brenda Coulter. The way Mrs. Coulter wrote her character’s inner dialog and their interaction with each other had me glued to the pages to the point that I didn’t want to stop…..so I didn’t until I finished it at 1:25 Sunday morning. Good thing I had to keep the nursery at my church during Sunday School, so I could at least hide the bags under my eyes for a while. There are several other books that I couldn’t put down this year, but this was the most recent.

  3. Feel better, Rel. Sorry you’re still unwell. Had hope you’d be all better by now. Until then, eat plenty of chicken noddle soup. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hmm… I suspect the one book I couldn’t put down this year was one of Ronie Kendig’s. A.) because – wow – that lady knows how to write a thriller of a book (can we say, non-stop action) and B.) I “knew” her books would be nothing BUT good.

  4. Oh, so sorry you’re not feeling well! Hope you feel better soon!

After several crazy days of one unexpected thing after another and not wanting to read AT ALL, I picked up Becky Wade’s Meant to Be Mine last week and LOVED IT!!! I had little butterflies in my stomach the whole time I read because it was just so good. I was literally sad when it ended because I never wanted it to end.

  5. I hope you’re doing lots and lots of resting and sleeping. I feel cranky at that nasty virus for you!

I have read so much incredibly good stuff lately (thanks so much!). The ‘River of Time’ series by Lisa T Bergren was an absolute highlight. Jessica Dotta’s ‘Born of Persuasion’ was impossible to put down as well.

  6. Hope you are well soon, Rel! Burning Sky by Lori Benton was unputdownable for me! I loved Willa’s character — she is for me the strongest female character I have read this year.

    • Beckie B. ยป isn’t she fabulous? We just discussed the wonderful Will, Joseph, and Neil at book club. You will enjoy the in depth interview we did with Lori. I’ll be posting it soon.

  7. My recent favorites have been Born of Persuasion and Dear Mr. Knightley. I really loved them both, well enough that I know I will reread them someday. I am eagerly watching both authors for their next releases. Hope you are better by now! I always enjoy your posts and reviews.

    • Kandra ยป appreciate that, Kandra – thank you! Loved DMK and Jessica’s story is really making waves, the good kind!

  8. Jesus, touch Rel and make her whole. She loves you, Lord, but you love her more. Heal her, please, Lord.

And oldie: Wrapped in Rain by Charles Martin. Really enjoyed it.

  9. Can I say my book? (Oh no, Sally! That’s terrible!) ๐Ÿ˜€

A number of mine have already been said–Burning Sky, Dear Mr. Knightley, Born of Persuasion. I don’t think anybody said The Prayer Box, though. I loved it, and it even had one of those rare, gasp-out-loud moments that blew me away. Loved it! Can’t wait for the follow-up later this year.

Rel, sure hope you’re getting better. We had some wicked, evil, nasty, two-week-long flus hit our area this winter. Looks like maybe it traveled over to you. Take it easy and enjoy some good books. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Sally Bradley ยป thanks, dear Sally, I’m definitely improving ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve heard good things about The Prayer Box and for some reason haven’t got my hands on a copy. Must rectify that soon!

  10. I got an early release of Raptor 6 by Ronie. I didn’t want to put it down but my niece and nephew were visiting for the week. I snuck it in as often as I could before I finished the final 2/3 in one sitting.

I followed it with Silenced by Dani Pettrey. I managed Silenced in one sitting because the house was finally mine again.

I’m currently nose deep in Melissa Tagg’s Made To Last. This is the first book I’ve read by Melissa and I’m sure Here To Stay won’t be far behind if Made To Last keeps up with its clever wit.

    Feel better!

  11. I hope you’re feeling better!

There’s been several this year. But I’ll go with the most recent. I stayed up waaaayyyy too late the other night reading Erynn Mangum’s Paige Turned. I’d forgotten how much her stories make me laugh! Something about her writing is easy for me to connect with. Definitely a keeper. ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. There are two books that I could not put down one was Color Me Blind and the other was Monday Madness both books are by Melinda Michelle and they are awesome. Color Me Blind is a beautiful story of friendship, love and of how we view race it is such an wonderful book. I loved Monday Madness because it dealt with spiritual warfare.
