We are winding up the FALCON blog tour today with an exclusive peek into the lives of Raptor Team following the end of Sal’s story! What a ride it has been! This series showcases Ronie’s amazing talent as a storyteller and supporter of military troops worldwide. If you are yet to experience a Kendig novel, I’m a little envious of the brilliant reading you have before you. Glad I’m a re-reader, though, as Ronie’s books are ones I keep coming back to. Enjoy this little extra treat, be sure to read it carefully, and then enter the giveaway via the Rafflecoptor from below.

Six months after Falcon

“Imagine us in five years,” Salvatore Russo said. He glanced around the circle, the campfire tossing shadows and light across his face. “We’re all tethered to a woman—”

“Except me,” Todd “Eagle” Archer lifted a hand.

“Yeah, but you’re working on that,” Brian “Hawk” Bledsoe said.

“No, you’ve been trying to set me up since we got back.”

“Hey, can’t leave my brother wallowing in loneliness.” Hawk grinned.

Sal shifted in his lawn chair, the legs digging deeper into the sand, the chill of the late hour clinging to the grains. “What about Titanis?”

“Oh!” Hawk’s face lit up as he pointed to Dean. “D’you see the news?”

“It wasn’t news. It was a gossip rag,” Mitch “Harrier” Black countered.

“Same difference. He’s dating some princess.”

“Duchess.” Dean had heard firsthand from the Aussie native, who didn’t know what to think or if he was really into this royal, but they’d been on a few dates and things hadn’t exploded in his face.

Brian hooted. “Dude’s a freakin’ hero in Australia and he gets the date of a lifetime! Between him dating this royal hottie and Dean becoming a dad—”

“What?”

Dean glanced down, his frustration piqued. “It wasn’t—”

“And you didn’t tell us?” Sal was coming out of his chair.

Shooting a glare at Hawk did nothing to stop the avalanche he’d caused. “We were waiting until her family knew.”

“So, it’s true?”

With a sight, Dean nodded. “Yeah. We found out last week. She’s due around Christmas.”

Congratulations wafted around the team and quickly turned into a competition of who’d have the most kids in five years. Dean needed to change the conversation. Talk of domestic life unsettled him still. “What do you think about Russell, the presidential candidate?”

“Russell’s our only hope.” Eagle crossed his arms and tucked his hands beneath his armpits. “Not sure he’ll clean up Washington the way I’d prefer, but I think he has the chutzpah necessary to get us back on our feet.”

“What about al-Homsi? Media love him.” Though Brian brought up the candidate, something about his voice told Dean he wasn’t excited about the man.

“His numbers are good,” Dean said.

“That’s what worries me. I think the dude is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.”

“Why? Because his parents are from Syria?”

“Exactly. He might’ve been born here, but he lived a lot of years with his dad in Syria. That makes me think twice.”

“More like five times,” Sal added. “Seen too much to give blanket trust just because his mom dropped him on American soil.”

“Which is why my vote is going to Russell,” Harrier said. “Besides, Russell’s brother was a legendary Special Forces soldier.”

“Tox Russell.” The name swirled a hefty dose of tension through Dean. He glanced at the beach. “Went through Special Forces training with Tox. He was one of the best I’d ever met.”

“Yeah,” Brian agreed. “I still think they used him as the scapegoat. Something else went down there in Syria.”

“I agree,” Dean said, “But look at Zahrah—she’s half Afghan.”

“And half Z-Day Zarrick.” Brian shook his head. “Try to doubt her loyalty—her dad will eat your lunch, dinner, and dessert.”

Dean could only smile. His father-in-law wasn’t the easiest to get along with, but he was a good man. One of the best.

Just like these men he’d served with. Who’d had his back time and again. Who would lay down their lives for him. And he them. Because…

I am a member of my nation’s chosen soldiery. I serve quietly, not seeking recognition or accolades. My goal is to succeed in my mission – and live to succeed again.

I read about the true life Falcon cover model a few weeks back and it was inspiring, to say the least.

    • All the models on the Quiet Pros cover are legitimate U. S. military veterans. Raptor’s model is a Special Forces veteran and Hawk’s is an Air Force Security Forces veteran! It’s been an HONOR to have them pose for my covers.

  7. I love the nonstop action and the constant surprises!

  8. Kelly Bridgewater

I love Ronie’s abilities to bring life to our heroes. They become your best friend’s brother or the guy down the street who just got his deployment orders. Makes me think twice about all the danger they face so I can enjoy my freedom. Thank you, Ronie. I’m always suggesting your books to others.

  9. Stephanie Alexander

I absolutely love EVERYTHING about Ronie’s books – action, suspense, witty dialog, characters, location, romantic tension, pro-military and soldiers, war dogs and the list goes on and on.
