Synopsis:~

Savannah Daniels has worked hard to build her law practice, to surround herself with good friends, and to be the loyal aunt her troubled niece can always count on. But since her ex-husband’s betrayal, she has trouble trusting anyone.

Jett Glover’s father committed suicide over a false newspaper report that ruined his reputation. Now a fierce champion of truth, Jett is writing the story of his journalism career—an international sex-trafficking exposé that will bring down a celebrity baseball player and the men closest to him, including Savannah’s ex-husband.

When Jett’s story breaks, tragedy ensues. Then a commercial airline crashes, and one of Savannah’s clients is implicated in the crash. Men connected to the scandal, including her ex, begin to die amid mysterious circumstances, and Savannah’s niece becomes an unwitting target.

Against their better instincts, Jett and Savannah join ranks to sort the facts from fiction. But can Savannah trust the reporter who threw her life into chaos? And can Jett face the possibility that he’s made the biggest mistake of his life?

Necee’s take:~

“Some sins soap didn’t touch.”

Flight Risk is a legal thriller with an underlying mystery that made for an intense storyline. I’ve loved Putman’s books, but did find it took me a bit to catch onto this storyline. However, once I did, I was hooked. I believe this is due to multiple viewpoints and multiple storylines. Once you get a grip on the characters and their stories, the book really takes off. It was fun seeing Savannah Daniel’s friends from the Hidden Justice series pop up in this new spin-off that can be read as a standalone. Savannah is a strong female character with too many irons in the fire as the story heats up, but that leads to her realizing she doesn’t want to go through it alone.

Jett Glover is a man driven for truth as an investigative journalist, but his article isn’t adding up and the body count is rising. He has a hero’s heart draws him to help Savannah, her niece, and uncovering the truth. I love his heart and how much he puts into thinking about what’s best for Savannah. Their romance isn’t necessarily traditional, but that made it even better as Savannah, understandably, is prejudiced against him before they even meet. I loved how Putman wrapped everything up in the ending, too. She gave such hope.

“Even in the absence of peace, she had a choice. Trust God or take control.”

There were so many intricate details to this book, that it is hard to capture it all in a review. However, I think the essence of the story is finding peace in the midst of all the chaos. As Savannah learns to move on from the past and how to trust again, Jett is learning to live outside of his work. I love Savannah’s heart for her niece and wanting what is best for her. There is also an underlying thread of human trafficking and its impact. I found it very inspirational and yet hard to see the lasting effects. Beautifully written with a powerful message of overcoming hardships while still dealing with the truth of humanity. Fans of this book would love Cara Putman’s Hidden Justice series.

I was given an advanced reader copy of Flight Risk by the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions given in this review are my own.
