I thought it would be fun to have actual photos of books from my shelves so I went browsing on my many, many bookshelves and pulled these ten books, guaranteed to bring enjoyment to readers who love their genres.

I’m really loving how these Top Ten posts are taking me to my shelves …

First Line Friday: Jen Turano’s Flights of Fancy (with giveaway)

The Writer & her Book (29)

Welcome to the weekend, friends, with another First Line Friday hosted by Hoarding Books. I’m featuring another historical romance this week, but one with comedic flair. The fun always begins in a Jen Turano novel with the characters’ names! Though when pitted against names like Permilia Griswold, Oliver Addleshaw, and Temperance Flowerdew, Isadora Delafield and Ian McKenzie of her latest novel, Flights of Fancy, are pretty tame in Jen Turano world 🙂 This novel begins Jen’s American Heiresses series and you can be sure hijinks and hilarity will follow.

And of course, the first line is what every …

Top Ten Tuesday: Favourite Couples in Books

The Writer & her Book (86)

Okay, so this week’s TOP TEN TUESDAY from That Artsy Reader Girl was a killer! How does anyone who loves books narrow the couples they have adored to just ten. They don’t. Take my word for it that I have way more than ten favourite couples in books and I had to stop looking at my shelves as I kept seeing more I wanted to add! W ith Valentine’s Day approaching I’ve focused on couples from HEA love stories in recent novels (in the last decade or so), and am saving my couples from the classics for another day. I …

5 Unpleasant Outcomes of the French Revolution by Allison Pittman (with giveaway)

The Writer & her Book (84)

One of my most beloved teachers at school was my 18th Century History teacher – she was so passionate about history, she came alive as she taught about the Jacobites, Marie Antoinette, and the Bastille, and she passed on that passion to her students, me being one of them! Having loved studying the French Revolution, visiting Paris, Versailles, and the foundation site of Bastille twenty years ago, was a dream come true. Now, I have to explore my passion for this turbulent era in books, so when I discovered Allison Pittman was writing about the French Revolution I may have …
