Top Ten Tuesday: Auto-buy Authors

Top Ten Tuesday

Back with another Top Ten Tuesday post, hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, and initially I thought this would be easy…until I got to 9 and realised I only had one spot left and many authors to add! Auto-buy authors for me, are ones that make my gut clench, engage my brain, and evoke an emotional reaction. The ones below do that and then some which is why they have made my top ten today…and why there’s some additional names below because ten just wasn’t enough for me!

Authors are a special breed of people whom I admire so very much. They invest blood, sweat, and tears into stories they bravely share with the world, opening themselves up to some pretty brutal commentary, and then do it all over again. In doing so, they provide readers like me with entertainment, relaxation, challenge, and emotional engagement. And I love them for it! Thank you to every one of the authors listed here, and the many others I love who aren’t here.

Thank you!

9[1]

Ronie Kendig

Author of brilliant, action and character driven military thrillers, with an authentic side of romance, Ronie Kendig has been a must buy author from me from the moment I read her debut novel, Dead Reckoning. With every book, my love for her fantastic characters and my admiration for her superior writing skills grows. Ronie also pens jaw dropping fantasy novels, too. She’s the real deal and everyone should be reading her books! Check out Storm Rising and Brand of Light!

Tamara Leigh

Tamara writes the best medieval romance novels about – and her contemporary romance/chick lit novels are also bomb, so be sure to check out her backlist. Her medieval warriors are the best and you are missing out if you haven’t read her books. Truly! Merciless and Fearless are her latest releases.

Charles Martin

Many more people know Charles’ name now with a feature movie – The Mountain Between Us – made from his novel of the same name. But I fell in love with his storytelling from the beginning, with The Dead Don’t Dance, Maggie, and When Crickets Cry. Each and every book he has written is more than worth your time and money.

Laura Frantz

Another author who became an auto-buy from her first historical romance novel, The Frontiersman’s Daughter. Laura’s novels are steeped in fascinating, historical detail, beautifully penned, and evoke all the feels every single time! I’m super excited for her 2020 release, An Uncommon Woman.

Susan May Warren

Susie May knows how to capture your imagination with very capable heroes, and the perfect combination of romance, danger, and family. If you enjoy linked series with connected characters be sure to dive in to the Christiansen Family series, Montana Rescue series, and her current family series, The Montana Marshalls.

10[1]

James L. Rubart

How I love the way Jim’s books mess with my mind and make me think deeply as his stories just as easily entertain. You know you are in for a ride of both mind and spirit in his deeply layered contemporary novels with a speculative twist. I’m planning on reading his latest, The Pages of Her Life, soon.

Lori Benton

Burning Sky, Lori’s debut novel, captured my heart from the first page. Every story since is a testament to her skill as a writer and a researcher. Lori’s American frontier novels are historical romance at their finest.

Amy Matayo

Amy writes with brutal honesty and heart. Each book is different which makes every read exciting. I don’t mind not knowing what to expect when it’s a Matayo novel as I know it will always satisfy, challenge, make me laugh, or alternatively make me cry. Contemporary romance with heart, guts, and soul. Sway and The End of the World are two of my favourites.

Courtney Walsh

I’ve fallen in love with Courtney’s writing, and her latest is probably her best yet. Again romance, but with great depth, driven by real issues and authentic characterisation that is often missing in so many love stories. Be sure to get your hands on Just One Kiss when it releases next week. It’s the bomb!

Jenny B. Jones

No one makes me laugh like Jenny! Her novels – YA, contemporary romance, and cosy mysteries – are all my favourites 🙂 Jenny is another writer who has a gift for creating characters you want to invest in whether they be teens finding their way in the world, swoony leading men, or feisty grannies who work for the CIA! All must read stories. Check out Jenny’s Enchanted Events cosy mystery series and There You’ll Find Me, the latter soon to be released as a feature film, starring Katherine McNamara, Jedidiah Goodacre, and Vanessa Redgrave!

As mentioned when I reached ten, all I could think of were more auto-buy authors like Dorothy Adamek, Kara Isaac, Becky WadeMelissa Tagg, Julie Cantrell, Nicole Deese, Joanne Bischof, Tammy L. Gray, Jody HedlundCarla Laureano….gah, I need to stop!

How about you? Who are your auto-buy authors?

  11. Love your list of authors….and the ones that didn’t quite make top 10….
You’ll love Pages of Her Life. Just finished Courtney Walsh’s latest and I’m still reeling from it.

  12. Amen and Amen to all your Top 10 – and I’d like to add Connilyn Cossette and Jennifer Rodewald – – and there will always be a special place in my heart for Francine Rivers who with her “Mark of the Lion” series made a mark for Christ in my heart – forever.

  13. Susan Snodgrass

I have loved Laura Frantz since TFD and Susan May Warren books take up a huge amount of space
on my shelves. Jenny B Jones is a riot and I have read Save The Date three times! Not enough time to list
all the great authors I follow. God has blessed me with the joy of these books.
