Top Ten Tuesday: Books I’d Forgotten I Loved

Top Ten Tuesday (2)

Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. I’ve hijacked this week’s topic as originally it was Books I Want To Read But Forgot Why. That just didn’t quite work for me so I examined my shelves and pulled ten books that I read years ago and had forgotten how much I loved them. It’s lovely thumbing through them again and remembering how I felt when I first read them. I have so many books that could fall in this category, but I selected the first ten that stood out to me. With around 3500 books in my home library, there’s no lack of books to consider!

I hope you enjoy this list and many of you, no doubt, will reminisce with me!

Books I’d Forgotten I Loved

1. Sway by Amy Matayo – this is such a unique book in the early days of Amy Matayo’s writing career, about two people who are absolutely wrong for each other falling hard. I feel a reread is on my agenda now!

2. Why the Sky is Blue by Susan Meissner – a stunning novel that heralded the great things that were to come for this talented author. Such a moving story about a mother and her daughters, one loved and planned, the other given up for adoption when she was conceived following a sexual assault.

3. Veil of Fire by Marlo Schalesky – How I have loved Marlo’s stories and this was the first of hers I read. She’s now focused on non-fiction, but each one of her novels are worth the read.

4. The Preacher’s Bride by Jody Hedlund – I’ve read many of Jody’s novels since reading her most excellent debut, inspired by the life of John Bunyan, but I remember how powerful a story it was, taking place in 1650s England during the final days of Cromwell’s reign.

5. Wrapped in Rain by Charles Martin – This early novel of Martin’s is sometimes less noticeable than some of his other stories, but if you haven’t read it, you are missing a gem of a story and the wonderful character of Miss Ella Rain.

6. Into the Free by Julie Cantrell – Another debut that caught my attention for the first page. Julie is a natural born storyteller and this one deserves another read for it’s power, grace, and lyricism.

7. Petra: City in Stone by Tracy Higley – I’ve always been fascinated by ancient history, so journeying to Petra with Tracy Higley was such a treat.

8. Maire by Linda Windsor – This book was the first of one of the earliest medieval romance series I had read. I loved it!

9. The Negotiator by Dee Henderson – The O’Malleys will remain forever my favourite Dee Henderson books and I’m about due for a reread given it’s been years since the last time I read them. A fabulous romantic suspense series about orphans who formed their own family bond.

10. Never the Bride by Cheryl McKay & Rene Gutteridge – this duo make for an excellent read. Chick Lit or Rom Com, this book is fun, romantic, and full of wit and wisdom.

  1. Petra does sound interesting!

    My TTT .

  2. Susan Meissner is one of those authors I know i need to read.

  3. I took a BIG reading break from the birth of my twins, back in 2000 until 2015, with only the odd beach read or Terry Pratchett book inbetween. I feel I’ve missed out on so many authors in that time, it was all Maeve Binchey, Danielle Steel and Catherine Cookson when I last read women’s fiction!
Some of these books sound really wonderful.

  4. * Winter is Past and Moonlight Masquerade by Ruth Axtell
    * Reluctant Burglar, Reluctant Runaway & Reluctant Smuggler (To Catch a Thief series) by Jill Elizabeth Nelson
    * The Nightwatchman by Mark Mynheir

  5. Even the title of Never the Bride makes me smile! Sounds fun.

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.

  6. It’s always fun to look back and find those books I’ve forgotten I loved so much. It makes me want to read them again. Thanks for sharing yours!

  7. Great list! I’ve read Wrapped in Rain by Charles Martin.

    My TTT list!

  8. I also enjoyed The Preacher’s Bride and Into the Free. One I had forgotten about is Be Still my Soul by Joanne Bischof.

  9. By nature, I am not a re-reader – but when the COVID pandemic had us all home-bound, I wanted an adventure that would sweep me away to another time and place and keep me adventure-bound for a while – – so my go to series was “Mark of the Lion” by Francine Rivers. Fabulous series. And because it had been so long ago that I read it, when I did the re-read, there were things I had forgotten that because I am an older Christian now, held a whole new meaning for me.
