It’s another Top Ten Tuesday…that I’m posting on a Wednesday in Australia…hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. I’m merging this week’s topic with one that the fabulous Carrie of Reading is My Superpower posted last week 🙂 Confused?! This week’s topic is Books I Enjoyed That Are Outside of My Comfort Zone and last week Carrie’s topic was Books I’d Like Back Please. Carrie’s spoke to my book loving heart as I run my own personal library and am delighted to loan my books to many people – family, friends, church members, friends of family, friends, church members, and book club members – and have for many years. It’s one of the reasons I blog – so I have a library to share with others. When CF books are around $20 per book to buy here, most readers can’t afford to to buy lots of books (and neither can I!), so I love that I have the privilege to share my books. But, it does come at a cost. I have many beloved books that I have loaned out that have never been returned….sob! And that makes me feel uncomfortable that my book babies are out in the world without me 😉 I just hope they are being well read and are not stuck in the bottom of a box somewhere – or worse, have been thrown away! Of the many books I’ve lost, here’s the ones that I’m most uncomfortable without…
Top Ten Tuesday
(Well, nine because it looks prettier!)
Sutter’s Cross by W. Dale Cramer
Cramer’s stunning debut novel – breaks my heart!
Legends of the Guardian King series by Karen Hancock
This series introduced me to fantasy like never before and I’ve lost the ENTIRE series! The horror.
Deception by Randy Alcorn
The final book in this series went walkabout. Brilliant storytelling. I cry.
The Begotten by Lisa T. Bergren
The first in a stunning historical series by Lisa. And I’ve lost the first book – gasp!
Forsaken by James David Jordan
Love this two book series featuring a stand up heroine – book two is now lonely…
Wounded Healer by Donna Fleisher
The first in a 4 book series about a psychologically scarred female veteran – and Donna herself sent me a signed copy. Makes me extra sad that such a special book was never returned to me.
Indivisible by Kristen Heitzmann
Oh, how I loved this book. So engaging, yet dark and mysterious. Where art thou, dear book?
I’ll Be Yours by Jenny B. Jones
Another signed copy sent to me by the author that has gone to another home. I do hope they look after Riley. This guts me, especially as Jen is the bomb! Sigh…brilliant book, by the way. Go find it and read it. Best YA hero ever!
The Dead Don’t Dance by Charles Martin
The second book of Charles’ that I owned and loved. I have Maggie, the sequel, but no beginning.
The kicker with this post is that nearly all of these books are out of print so I have no hope of replacing them on my physical shelves. But I’ll live! When I committed to sharing my books with people in this way, some 15+ years ago, I knew there would be losses along the way. The joy books bring to people is worth it!
Do you share your books with others?

*sob* It’s like letting your kids go for a play date and not getting them back!
Meanwhile, I need to read some of these…

Katie Donovan » You get it 🙂 Oh, which ones haven’t you read?

I hope you get all of you books back someday (or replacements for them). Wow, I can’t imagine borrowing a book without returning it!
My TTT.

Lydia » I know, right? Can’t imagine it either 🙂

I’m sorry that your books are lost! 🙁 I’ve had that happen to me, too.
I’m always glad to share my books, but feel relief when they come home again. 🙂 😉

Rosalyn » Thanks Rosalyn – you know exactly how it feels!! It’s so lovely when they return 🙂

I’ve given away some. I’m thinking and praying about starting a CF library for our church when the new building goes up and we have more room. I’m thinking of donating the CF books I own that I’ve read so far and loved….still not sure if I could truly part with them knowing that they may disappear from the church….will need to pray about it some more….

MJSH » Prayer is important, Mindy, for sure! Well, you know this, but I mean with regard to books. I prayed a lot about my attachment to my books and knew that if I was to pursue a library ministry, I needed to accept the damage and the losses. Good on you for thinking and praying about sharing your books in this way.

I wish I could hunt these down for you, my friend! I once loaned a whole stack of Ronie’s books to a friend in my original CFRR bag, I got the books back, but no bag 🙁

Beth Erin » We are sentimental about all our bookish things, not just the books. I’m sorry as that bag would be extra special to you 🙁

Yes…I’ve lost a few favorites that way, but not as many as you! Hugs!
