Top Ten Tuesday: The First Ten Books I Ever Reviewed

The Writer & her Book (86)

Love this Top Ten Tuesday post (hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl), even more so because it was submitted by my fabulous friend, Rissi of Finding Wonderland. If you don’t follow her blog, I recommend doing so immediately! This was fun to do because selection of books was super easy as all I needed to do was look at my first review posts back in September, 2006. Even though I began reviewing books for Koorong, our national Christian book chain earlier than this, these were still my first reviews as I transferred them to my blog at its inception.

It made me happy and sad to pull my copies from my bookshelves (minus The Cubicle Next Door as it’s out on loan). Sad because five of these books were published by Harvest House who are no longer publishing fiction. Happy because Susan Meissner has gone on to become a sought after author in both the Christian and General markets. Debra White Smith’s Possibilities was rereleased last year by Bethany House, along with the rest of her Jane Austen retellings, and Chateau of Echoes remains over a decade later as one of my all time favourite reads!

The First Ten Books I Ever Reviewed

Chateau of Echoes by Siri Mitchell – My review

Allah’s Fire by Chuck Holton and Gayle Roper – My review

Magdalene by Angela Elwell Hunt – My review

The Cubicle Next Door by Siri Mitchell – My review

  1. I didn’t start writing reviews until 2016:

    1) The Unveiling – Tamara Leigh (DISCLAIMER: I wrote a review for ALL her books)
    2) You’re the One That I Want – Susan May Warren
    3) Burning Proof – Janice Cantore
    4) The Red Door Inn – Liz Johnson
    5) A Fool & His Monet – Sandra Orchard
    6) Secrets She Kept – Cathy Gohlke
    7) Salt to the Sea – Ruta Sepetys
    8) Without Warning – Lynette Eason
    9) Operation: ZULU – Ronie Kendig
    10) She Walks In Power – Marylu Tyndall

  2. I didn’t realize that Susan Meissner started out writing Christian fiction. Interesting. I’ve read a number of her newer books, which I appreciate for their clean content. Although I haven’t liked her last couple books as much, I do enjoy her as an author.

    Happy TTT!

  3. Do you think you’ll ever reread any of these titles?

    My TTT.

    • Lydia » I’ve read Chateau of Echoes, The Cubicle Next Door, and Allah’s Fire numerous times 🙂 But haven’t reread them in a long time now. Too many new books to read!

  4. I was so curious what your first ones were since we started a year apart from each other.
    Mine….
A Passion Most Pure Julie Lessman
    The Hunted by Mike Dellosso
    Faking Grace by Tamara Leigh
All Through the Night by Davis Bunn
    Michal by Jill Eileen Smith
Hollywood Nobody by Lisa Joy Samson
    Single Sashimi by Camy Tang
And my brain went blank. 😉

  5. I haven’t read any of these! Then again, I didn’t start reading much Christian fiction — or reviewing books — until around 2010.

  6. Fun! Thankfully, one can look back in blog archives to figure it out. My first five, back in 2012, were:

Sixty Acres and a Bride by Regina Jennings
Serpent of Moses by Don Hoesel
Against the Tide by Elizabeth Camden
A Change of Fortune by Jen Turano
    Love’s Reckoning by Laura Frantz

  7. I like the sound of Chateau of Echoes. Here is my Top Ten Tuesday.

  8. Deborah Khuanghlawn

So. It’s been FOR.EH.VER. since I looked up my old blog and it also appears that the design I bought for it way back when has expired so now it all looks horrible haha

My first ten reviews (also from 2006!):

    Pink by Marilyn Griffith
    Tight Squeeze by Debbie DiGiovanni
    Theodora’s Diary by Penny Culliford
    Uncharted by Angela Hunt
Terminal 9 by Patricia Rushford and Harrison James
    Impasse by Laurel Oke Logan
Dreaming in Black and White by Laura Jensen Walker
The Potluck Club by Linda Evans Shepherd and Eva Marie Everson
    Theodora’s Wedding by Penny Culliford
