Synopsis:~

Unflinching and plainspoken, Tessa Swan is not your typical 18th-century woman. Born and bred on the western Virginia frontier along with her five brothers, she is a force to be reckoned with.

Quiet and courageous, Clay Tygart is not your typical 18th-century man. Raised by Lenape Indians, he returns a hero from the French and Indian War to the fort that bears his name, bringing with him Tessa’s long-lost friend, Keturah, a redeemed Indian captive like himself.

Determined to avoid any romantic entanglements as fort commander, Clay remains aloof whenever he encounters the lovely Tessa. But when she is taken captive by the tribe Clay left, his hand–and heart–are forced, leading to one very private and one very public reckoning.

Intense, evocative, and laced with intricate historical details that bring the past to life, An Uncommon Woman will transport you to the picturesque and dangerous western Virginia mountains of 1770.

My take:~

Delighted that my first review of the year is a Laura Frantz novel, and what a novel it is! An Uncommon Woman will fill each nook and cranny of your historical fiction loving heart with rich prose, exceptional historicity, magnetic characters, and a love story for the ages. Laura’s passion for the era and her commitment to authentic storytelling is a gift I’m so thankful to experience within the pages. Clay and Tessa are unique and appealing in their own right, and as love slowly blossoms between them, their allure only increases. Laura pens historical romance just as I like it, enabling me to learn about pivotal – and even mundane – elements of history while being captivated by the unfolding journey her characters walk in both tragedy and triumph. An Uncommon Woman is truly and unforgettable story.

With thanks to the publisher for my review copy. Come back later in the week for a character spotlight on Tessa and Clay, with the chance to win a copy of An Uncommon Woman.
