Bookish Question of the Week

rp_Quoftheweek1-300x30011-300x300111.pngHello, dear readers…an easy bookish question for you!

Being under the weather for the last couple of days, I’ve been able to get some more reading done than usual and devoured Serena Chase’sย soon to be releasedย The Sunken Realm (swoony actionville and fabulously long!), Jessica R. Patch’s Just the Way You Areย (super cute, fun, and meaningful), and I’m partway through Lisa Harris’ Vendettaย (I’m hooked).

There’s just something fun about sharing with others about what we are reading, so do tell, dear literary lovers…

What book/s are you reading this week?

  1. This week I’ve been reading My Brother’s Crown by Mindy Starns Clark and Leslie Gould. It’s a great mix of historical and contemporary, weaving in the family history into the present day. It’s the first of a new series.

  2. I’m a Siri Mitchell fan and just finished her latest, Like A Flower In Bloom. As always, rich in historical detail, this sweet love story made me laugh out loud. I love the way Siri Mitchell unpacks British society’s expectations of women in the 1850s. Reminds me why I am so blessed to live in a time where following my dreams outside the traditional homemaker role is not only allowed, but celebrated by society.

  3. This past week or two I’ve read Jen Hatmaker’s “For the Love”, “Bread and Wine” by Shauna Niequist and now I’m back to fiction with “Sparrow in Terezin” by Kristy Cambron (completely hooked!)

I’m also now cooking my way through “Bread and Wine”, because there are some people that you should just trust with your family meals and Shauna’s recipes have never let me down. We always finish a meal of hers with “wow, that was so yum”.

  4. I have 3 books in the works: The audio version of The Curse of Crow Hollow by Billy Coffey, Love’s A Stage by Rene Gutteridge and Cheryl McKay on Kindle. And for an actual book, Darkness Rising by Lis Wiehl. I have to have a light romance to balance out the creepiness!

  5. I just finished “Falling Like Snowflakes” by Denise Hunter. Fantastic book and THAT cover….whew!!! The inside is great as well :-). I’m now reading “Justified” by Varina Denman. Funny thing…they were both recommended by you. Shocking, I know! Praying that you’re on the mend, but books are always the best medicine, right?

  6. I just finished Lord Fenton’s Folly by Josi Kilpack- it was pretty awesome, lots of character growth with some surprises thrown in. Today I’m starting Marrying Christopher by Michele Paige Holmes. It’s the third in a series but I’ve heard it reads well as a stand alone.

  7. Hi Rel, I’ve just finished Jaded by Verina Denman, mended hearts series, book 1. It was a candid look at the damage the church can do …and the journey back to healing. I enjoyed the romance that at times was beautiful and intricate in the movement of the characters, their expressions and interactions. (Yes that’s the writer in me looking closer than most!)
Now I’m Beta reading so I can’t share what it is, but I am enjoying it! Hope you get well soon ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. I am reading Glory Days by Max Lucado. I just started it but so far so good – I love all of Max Lucado’s books. I am also reading When the Heart Cries by Cindy Woodsmall. It is really good so far and I would recommend it if you like Amish romances. This is actually the first Amish romance that I have read. Love reading what everyone else is reading and what they think about it. Hope you get better soon Rel.

  9. I’m currently reading Katie Ganshert’s new novella The Perfect Arrangement. Katie has a wonderful contemporary romance voice. I wish she would write some full-length contemporary romance with a touch of comedy. This novella shows she can do it well. The novella I just finished was A Side of Hope by Krista Phillips. Both are very good. I’m planning to get back to Gone With the Wind pretty soon.

    • Katie just has a wonderful voice, I’ve decided, Sylvia! Whether it be women’s fiction/romance, YA thriller, or I’m sure, romantic comedy. Looking forward to reading her novella, too ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. I’m reading an embarrassing amount of books, but my main focus just now is on Rachelle Rea’s second novel. Next is a YA novel or Rachel Hauck’s November release, depends on my mindset when it’s time to begin another book. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m so glad to hear Lisa’s novel is good – I think I have that one preordered.

    Feel better, Rel. ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. This week I’m reading The Lost Heiress by Roseanna M. White and Star of Night by Tracy L. Higley.

  12. Anything by Charles Martin. He is an artist with words. No better writer anywhere.

  13. Well Rel – your question really came at an interesting point in my reading life. Based on your blog about Angela Hunt’s novel “Bathsheba” – I downloaded it and started my reading journey and knowing how well Angela researches her subject matter before writing, I started having some eye, mind and heart opening revelations while reading the story. I had to re-read the scriptures and start some very soul searching questions and preconceived ideas I had about the David and Bathsheba story – and the bottom line is that some of the ways and preaching concepts that had been taught to me a looooong time ago – I am now realizing were wrong. And I’m having to slow my reading of the story and allow God to open my eyes to the “truth” of this story – – not mans interpretation of it – but God’s truth – – and it has been hard to “read” this book as just a well written novel. I’m having to rethink the whole foundation and truth of what happened and it’s become more of a teaching and research and reprogram study instead of just a novel to read. For probably the first time in my “reading life” – – I’m having to read the Bathsheba novel in small doses so I can absorb it and think and pray about how I’m responding to the truth that has come to light – this novel has probably impacted me in a more foundation truth mode than any other novel I’ve read. Most christian authors inspire me, encourage me, even lighten my mode and make me laugh – – but this book has taken a whole different path and so I’m actually doing some “dual” reading by reading something with a lighter side to counter the heavier feel of Bathsheba – – not to say that Bathsheba is dark or sad – – but it does reveal facts I had never considered – – and the depth of God’s amazing grace.

  14. I just read Chivalrous the other week, and as often happens, I don’t want to move on. Currently I want another medieval read! Though I started Secrets of Sloane House by Shelley Gray before Chivalrous, so I’m still working through that! I have The Mistress of Tall Acre, Flame of Resistance, and Maggie Bright to start as well! It’s too many options in the middle of too much school work. :-p

  15. What’s on my reading list this week? I have several books in my need-to-get-to pile: I am currently reading “The Story Keeper” by Lisa Wingate that I picked up at my library yesterday. It’s SO good and I’m about halfway through it, very hard to put down! Next up is Lynne Gentry’s “Valley of Decision” her third (and final, I believe) in the Carthage Chronicles series. Then two books by Alicia Ruggieri “The Fragrance of Geraniums” and “All Our Empty Places” (another series). Since I am on both Lynne’s & Alicia’s street teams, I am honored to be able to read & review their books. Then another book just for fun, Julie Klassen’s “The Tudor’s Daughter” borrowed from my sister-in-law. I’m not sure I’ll be able to read all of these within a week, but I hope to make a good dent in them anyway! Who knows what’s next after all those ones….I have a whole bookshelf to choose from….depends on my reading mood ๐Ÿ™‚
