Finally, she meets a man online from a volatile corner of the world who offers her the chance to find that purpose. But she will have to leave everyone she loves behind in order to take it.
Tate Webber has loved Mallory for many years. He understands that Mallory will never be happy with him until her deepest heart’s desire is satisfied. When Mallory decides to travel across the world to fulfi ll her dreams, Tate begs her not to go but tries to give her the space she needs. Mallory embarks on her dangerous journey only to discover how swiftly and easily promises can be broken. And Mallory can only pray that she will make it out alive.
Inspired by actual events, The Promise is a riveting love story that asks the question: how far will we go for love?
Introducing Mallory
Brief physical description
Mallory Hammond is featured on the cover of The Promise. She is a beautiful woman, intelligent, and intent on fulfilling the #1 thing on her bucket list—to save a life.
Strengths and weaknesses
Mallory is smart and independent, but sometimes her compassion and need to fulfill her goal clouds her choices, and ultimately she chooses a path that almost destroys her.
My inspiration for Mallory and background to the story
The Promise is inspired by actual events. Someone close to me was conned by a man in Pakistan, traveled to meet him, and was held against her will. Penniless, broken, and in fear for her life, “Laurie” (as we call her) reached out to me via a code word we had established before her travels. Then it was up to me to work with the Consulate in Pakistan, Embassy in Islamabad, and the U.S. State Department to get her safely home. I feel like this is the book I’ve been working toward for my entire career, however, as the real-life story unfolded, I could have never imagined writing about it.
Beth Wiseman is the best-selling author of the Daughters of the Promise series and the Land of Canaan series. Wiseman has a deep affection for the Amish and their simpler way of life, and while she plans to continue writing Amish love stories, she is also branching out into other areas. In her daring new novel, Wiseman jumps way outside the box. The Promise will take readers far away from Amish country and the small Texas towns of her previous releases to a dangerous place on the other side of the world. Inspired by actual events, Wiseman believes this is the book she’s been working toward for a long time.

Her braid is very Frozen-esk. I’m surprised no one else mentioned that… or that could be because I just got back from Disney World….
