Christy Barritt: The Writer & her Book

Christy Barritt

Chatting with the talented Christy Barritt today as she talks Rachael Ray, her childhood, and an ex-CIA agent character! Be sure to get your hands on her latest romantic suspense novel, Distorted – you won’t be disappointed.

The Writer

Please describe yourself in three words (ask your best friend or family if you are struggling!)

Free-spirited, creative, happy.

What’s your favourite season, and why?

I love autumn. There’s something about the leaves changing and the cooler weather and all the activities that go with it that makes me really happy!

What is the best part of your day?

I love mornings and nights. I guess that’s two things! But morning because it’s my best time to work and have some quiet. Night times because I get to cuddle with my babies and relax.

What do you miss most about your childhood?

My dad and brother. They’ve both passed away. L

Which TV talk show host would you like to be interviewed by? Why?

Rachael Ray because she seems fun—and I’d get to eat!

You are at a fruit market – what do you reach for first?

Watermelon. I loved it! I craved it constantly during my first pregnancy.

What was the first Christian Fiction novel you read?

Frank Peretti, This Present Darkness. It gave me nightmares! I should re-read it sometime.

What is one author and/or book you always recommend?

I love Linda Hall’s early books.

What book character has stuck in your mind from a book you have read this year?

I’ve really enjoyed the first two books in the If I Run trilogy by Terri Blackstock. It was hard for me to put down.

The Book

Distorted

Mallory Baldwin is a survivor. A former victim of human trafficking, she’s been given a second chance, yet not a night goes by that she doesn’t remember being a slave to weapons dealer Dante Torres. Despite being afraid of the dark and wary of strangers, Mallory is trying to rebuild her life by turning her tragedy into redemption.

To former Navy SEAL Tennyson Walker, Mallory seems nothing like the shattered woman he rescued two years ago, and he can’t help but be inspired by her strength and resilience. So when a stalker suddenly makes Mallory vulnerable once again, Tennyson steps up as her bodyguard to keep her safe.

Mallory and Tennyson’s mutual attraction can’t be ignored, but neither can Mallory’s suspicion that Tennyson is keeping a terrible secret about her past. As the nightmare closes in, it’s not only Mallory and Tennyson’s love that comes under fire but their very lives as well. Will their faith sustain them? Or will the darkness win once and for all?

What was the working title?

Something that started with a D! The other two books in the series are Dubiosity and Disillusioned so I wanted to stick with that theme, but it also had to be a title that made sense.

Describe your book in 5 adjectives.

Romantic. Suspenseful. Heart-wrenching. Intense. Redemptive.

Which character took you by surprise?

Ethan, the ex-CIA agent. He showed up, I loved him, and he’s getting his own book now. 🙂

What was the latest you stayed up working on this story?

I don’t stay up late. LOL That ended when I had kids. My brain shuts down by the end of the day.

Which character’s name was the hardest to choose? Why?

Mallory’s. I’m not even sure why. Her name started as Lucy, but that didn’t seem quite right for her, but it took me forever to figure out a name that fit her.

What’s something that didn’t make it into the final copy?

I keep thinking about this question, and I honestly can’t think of a thing!

Thanks Christy!
