My take:~

There’s much promise in Jerusha Agen’s debut novel, Rising Danger, with all the elements that make a romantic suspense novel great. With two black labradors in our household, the heroine’s bomb sniffing K9 companion, Toby, was a bonus! A handsome reformed ex-boyfriend and a private team of dog handlers find themselves in a race to stop a bomber intent on exploding dams in order to wreak death and destruction.

The characters were not as layered as I hoped for, with the heroine vacillating about her feelings constantly, and many of the interactions felt overly dramatic and a little forced which disconnected me from the story. Connection to the characters is key for me and I found it hard to do with both Bristol and Remington.

That said, the members of the female dog handling team – Phoenix K9 Security and Detection Agency – are headed for stories of their own and it will be great to explore their intriguing pasts and personalities as more books are released. Hidden Danger (Cora’s story) releases this November.
