Cover Art Reveal: Coming in late 2018/early 2019 from Thomas Nelson

TNlate2018.2019

Thomas Nelson’s late 2018/early 2019 novels are arriving closer than we think as we bear down on the middle of this year! Is it just me that is finding the months rush past at a great clip?! For a Christian publisher, Thomas Nelson have shown a willingness to be innovative with their covers over the past few years and have branched out from traditionally styled covers which has been wonderful.  However, for the most part, this particular set of books are of the ‘well designed but nothing new’ variety. That is not intended to be disrespectful in any way to the designers or authors of these books. We all know cover art is very subjective and what I don’t particularly fancy will be the design that caught another reader’s eye. The ones that appeal to me most are Denise’s (that gorgeous Magnolia tree!), Kelly’s (simple, clean lines that reflect the genre), and Robin’s (love the script title font).

As far as stories go, I’m more than intrigued by the story of Joy Davidman and C.S. Lewis’ friendship and romance, looking forward to Terri Blackstock’s return to romance, and am particularly partial to the completion of Cara and Denise’s respective series (I believe!) and the exciting new series from Tamera and Robin! Great to see a debut author in Abigail Wilson, although I do wish they had done more with her cover. It isn’t as eye-catching as I hoped for and feels a little incomplete to me, but the story sounds terrific 🙂

Kelly Irvin is returning to her first love – romantic suspense – after 16 Amish romance novels and novellas, so I’m keen to read Tell Her No Lies.

Please share with me which of these stories will be hitting your wishlists!

BEcoming Mrs Lewis

Becoming Mrs. Lewis by Patti Callahan

In a most improbable friendship, she found love. In a world where women were silenced, she found her voice.

From New York Times bestselling author Patti Callahan comes an exquisite novel of Joy Davidman, the woman C. S. Lewis called “my whole world.” When poet and writer Joy Davidman began writing letters to C. S. Lewis—known as Jack—she was looking for spiritual answers, not love. Love, after all, wasn’t holding together her crumbling marriage. Everything about New Yorker Joy seemed ill-matched for an Oxford don and the beloved writer of Narnia, yet their minds bonded over their letters. Embarking on the adventure of her life, Joy traveled from America to England and back again, facing heartbreak and poverty, discovering friendship and faith, and against all odds, finding a love that even the threat of death couldn’t destroy.

In this masterful exploration of one of the greatest love stories of modern times, we meet a brilliant writer, a fiercely independent mother, and a passionate woman who changed the life of this respected author and inspired books that still enchant us and change us. Joy lived at a time when women weren’t meant to have a voice—and yet her love for Jack gave them both voices they didn’t know they had.

At once a fascinating historical novel and a glimpse into a writer’s life, Becoming Mrs. Lewis is above all a love story—a love of literature and ideas and a love between a husband and wife that, in the end, was not impossible at all.

20 Responses to Cover Art Reveal: Coming in late 2018/early 2019 from Thomas Nelson

  1. Love these cover posts!

My favorite covers are Delayed Justice and Secrets of Cedar Cabin.

I look forward to reading Abigail Wilson’s debut, With this Pledge by Tamera Alexander, Catching Christmas by Terri Blackstock and Delayed Justice by Cara Putnam.

I’ve not read Kelly Irwin so maybe this is the time to try her writing style. I am WAY behind on Coble’s series.

  2. I have been loving Colleen Coble’s book covers lately. And I love Denise’s new cover, although the story sounds similar to one she did in Seaside Letters. But I’m not complaining, I loved that book. I like the contemporary look of Robin’s new book too.

    • Brittaney B » There was the similarity of correspondence in Seaside Letters but I’ve no doubt Denise will make this one stand apart 🙂 Makes me want to read Seaside Letters again, too 🙂

  3. I ADORE this cover. And this looks like a great list of books. Can’t wait to read so many of them! I’m also intrigued by the CS Lewis book. Okay, off to write!

    • Cara Putman » Thanks for dropping by, Cara 🙂 Yellow is a popular colour for suspense novels and I think it has been used really well (and a little differently) on yours 🙂

  4. I love the vibrant colors on Denise Hunter’s cover!

  5. Aaron McCarver

    Hey Rel,
I agree with you that there aren’t any “new and different” types of covers here, but in the current ever-shifting world of Christian fiction publishing, I understand sticking to the “tried and true.” I do think there are some subtle differences here that do make some stand out. I love Patti Callahan’s cover! Everything about it works for me. While I usually prefer people on the cover to face forward or at least sideways, this works so well as she was a real person, so no artist’s rendition to cloud this. Also, this gives the appearance of entering the world of C. S. Lewis with her. I also love the way she is “framed” between the two columns. And I love C. S. Lewis, as most do, so I am really looking forward to reading this one! I also love Tamera’s new cover! It evokes the time period very well. I disagree with you some about Abigail Wilson’s cover. I love how the fading light adds a shadowy and mysterious look to the estate. The corner designs add a nice framing touch as well. Terri’s cover is great with the whimsical touches of the toy car and miniature presents, perfect for Christmas! Can’t wait for this one! I like Robin Lee Hatcher’s new cover a lot. The couple on the road give the appearance of traveling life’s adventure together into the future. However, while the stark white sky makes a great backdrop for the title lettering and color, it seems a bit off from the picture to me. Denise Hunter’s cover is certainly beautiful! But as a Mississippian, I always prefer the native evergreen Southern magnolia with its large white blossoms. I would love to go this picnic, though. As for the suspense covers, I love Cara’s with its pops of yellow against the somber tones of the columns of a justice building of some type. Colleen’s cover for the novel adds just enough of a shadowy tone to the beautiful landscape, but I confess to not being a fan of the novella cover. It is too nondescript for me. I am also not a big fan of Kelly Irvin’s cover, though I do think it works for a suspense cover. It reminds me a bit of the latest covers of Lynette Eason’s series. I really like the bright snowy scene for the Amish Christmas novella collection. The weathered wood, probably of a barn, in the backdrop is a great touch! Thanks for sharing this wonderful collection of titles from Thomas Nelson!

    • Aaron McCarver » Yes, it’s a challenging time for authors and publishers and getting a cover that pleases the respective audience is an ongoing challenge. I greatly admire the effort that goes in to creating a cover, as well as the thought behind it. I agree that Patti’s cover very much reflects the era and content of the book. Great thoughts, Aaron!

  6. Thanks for the look at these covers, Rel! Denise Hunter’s is eye-catching, and Secrets of Cedar Cabin would make me grab it and check it out, as does Becoming Mrs. Lewis. Sounds like we’re in for some great reading.

I agree that time is zipping by! How can it be the middle of May already???

  7. The cover that grabs me the most is the one called Tell Her No Lies. It’s from a new to me author, but I’m sure I’ll like the book, just from looking at it! 😉
I also look forward to Robin Lee Hatcher and Colleen Coble’s books.

  8. Denise and Colleen’s pink flowers attract me. They’re so pretty! Of course, I love flowers 🙂

  9. On Magnolia Lane by Denise Hunter is a gorgeous cover! I also love With This Pledge by Tamera Alexander’s cover. But really all of these covers are enticing!

  10. Terrill Rosado

I absolutely love Magnolia trees and wish their blooming season was longer. Denise’s book speaks to that love! Most of the covers are lovely, but I truly wasn’t blown away by any of them. Although, for some reason, the cover of Who I Am With You by Robin Lee Hatcher made me emotional. Why? I’m not sure. LOL. Oh, and I am very intrigued by Kelly Irvin’s, Tell Her No Lies. I vaguely remember after reading Upon a Spring Breeze that she mentioned writing a romantic suspense. I’ll be checking out this genre switch, for sure.
