Nowhere to Turn by Lynette Eason

Nowhere to turnSynopsis:~

The day Danielle Harding takes her 11-year-old son, Simon, and flees from her abusive husband, is the same day Kurt Harding dies. A relieved Dani believes she and her son are finally safe–but in reality, the danger has just begun. When Kurt was alive, he took something important to a mysterious person. That person wants the item back and believes Dani now has it. As she and her son run for their lives, they have nowhere to turn, until she hires Adam Buchanan of Operation Refuge and goes into hiding. Unfortunately, she won’t be able to hide for long . . .

My take:~

Lynette Eason returns with the second book in her Hidden Identity series, this time focused on a young mother and her son, fleeing an abusive marriage. Lynette’s stories are always solid with plenty of suspense and action, along with appealing characters. Nowhere to Turn provides those things, particularly with Dani’s son, Simon, who is deaf and just an intriguing character. There are cameos from Summer and David from the first book which is always fun for faithful readers and you want to cheer for Dani and Adam as they edge towards a relationship. Maybe I’m getting overly particular in my “old age”, as while this book was entertaining, I wasn’t gripped by it. There is a level of predictability which appeals to those who crave a familiar reading experience, but I’m looking for something more in my fiction – something out of the box, a surprising twist, an unexpected character response or a character I haven’t “met” before. Don’t get me wrong, Lynette writes romantic suspense very well and there is much to enjoy in this book and I will continue to seek out her stories. There’s just that elusive “something” that I’m now looking for which makes a stellar read for me. I’d love to hear your thoughts on Nowhere to Turn so leave a comment if you are so inclined!
