Sandra D Bricker’s
contemporary romance
Raw Edges
Abingdon Press
The Story
Grayson McDonough has no use for teal ribbons, 5k runs, or ovarian cancer support groups now that his beautiful wife Jenna is gone. But their nine-year-old daughter Sadie seems to need the connection.
When Annabelle Curtis, the beautiful cancer survivor organizing the memory quilt project for the Ovacome support group, begins to bring out the silly and fun side of his precious daughter again, Gray must set aside his own grief to support the healing of Sadie’s young heart.
But is there hope for Gray’s heart too along the way?

Brief physical description
Annabelle Curtis is in her mid-thirties. She has long, curly blonde hair that has a wild quality; her eyes are green, and they quickly betray her emotions.
Gray McDonough is forty; he is every bit the ex-Marine with salt-and-pepper hair which he wears short on the sides and longer on top; he has striking blue eyes.

Strengths and weaknesses
Annabelle’s strength is her self-assurance; her weakness is probably her kind heart and her desire to please others.
Gray’s strength is also his greatest weakness — his daughter Sadie. He lives his life for the nine-year-old, serving as both her mother and her father after Jenna’s death.
Your inspiration for the character
My inspiration for these characters was my own experience with ovarian cancer. I wanted to tell their story from the perspective of being the ones left standing after ovarian cancer has swept through their lives when so many others aren’t as blessed.
